UCSD's ranking for its economics program is pretty up there and i have read that it is better than Cornell's. But which college would you pick for an econ major for your undergraduate years?

Are you actually serious?

Just to clarify, I got to a community college in California, and to have guaranteed acceptance into UCSD, all you need is a 3.0. Sometimes less… I feel the caliber of schools and students would be just blatantly absurd to compare

well i have been talking to people. so there’s a reason for the thread. it’s mixed?
so if it were so obvious i wouldnt ask.

Cornell and UCSD aren’t even in the same ball park

I just received my B.A in Econ from UCSD and you have no idea how incredibly difficult it was for me to acquire it. You cease having a social life and are constantly studying your behind off. Don’t even get me started on the competitiveness…

I’m sure the school overall is not considered in the same caliber as Cornell, but I can see why the Econ department was ranked so high.

If rankings are important to you, you probably know that both programs are ranked in the top 25 in undergraduate economics. Thus, you cannot go wrong. Because San Diego and Ithaca couldn’t be much more different, the experience at each institution probably would be very different. As in most cases, you should simply pick the school that is the best fit for you.

This is a toughy. Depends on you and your likes/dislikes. I would suggest making a pros/cons list. I have heard UCSD is pretty up there in Econ, but Cornell is Ivy League. It’s your choice. If I were you I would ask something more specific.
