Econ joint majors

And this from someone who jumped on someone who wrote Capital instead of Capitol? I read that post of yours. Now I have the pleasure of calling you hypocritical.

also, double standard= you do not practise what you preach. You pounce on others in precisely the same argumentative, hostile manner you accuse me of.

pathetic- just pathetic. Feel free to get your last word in- This is a waste of time. You come out with the sole purpose of provoking conflict. I may challenge that. With some it results in a healthy resolution. With others-- its a collosal waste of time. Have a nice life.

jym, let me respectfully make one point: in at least one post, you immediately pounced on someone who incorrectly used Capital for Capitol.

I am sure if I scoured your other posts I will find more such examples.

It seems to me that you feel fine to criticize others but can't take it.

you mean this"

I assume we are talking the Federal, not State House. And just as an aside, isn't it the Capitol, not Capital?

[/quote]
Thats your definition of "pounce"? Sheesh. Go away. Just go away.

jym, yes. Etiquette forbids such correction.

jym, etiquette also does not permit sheesh, go away kind of dismissive comments one would use with a stray animal.

As others have tried, albeit in vein, to suggest-- please forgive us if we choose to take etiquette lessons from someone else. Now feel free to get your last jab in, if thats what brings you pleasure. Tata.

jym, permit me to apologize to you and others if I have offended you. My objective was to engage in a spirited, heated debate; I believe the argumentative tradition is good, and occasionally we may even inadvertently slander and insult, then we regroup but we should never back off due to politeness.

From Europe to India I have been brought up on a fierce confrontational argumentative tradition and I do get carried away in the US until I realize how sensitive and touch Americans are.

My apologies, again, and wish you well.

I might suggest you consider posting on the "Dr." thread as well, and apologize to the posters there too who were offended. Regardless of one's background, and whether or not one believes that one nationality is or is not any more sensitive or touchy than others, one must abide by a forum's terms of service, which expects a courteous discourse. There may be sites where verbal free-for-alls are permitted. For those who enjoy that, those are great places to go. Some of us at times take the "clown in the bullring" role, and find ourselves the target of the bull's attack. Lets hope there will be less need to take on that role in the future.

jym, I apologized as a form of graciousness, to end our discourse and as a way of signing off and not because I did something profoundly wrong. In any give and take feelings do get bruised. I am shocked that you now expect me to grovel on the other forum. You might have shown some grace and tact by simply accepting my apology. Your suggestion is staggering in its import. No, I will not do that.

Your choice, rama. It was a suggestion-- since you acknowledged the offense here, that it would be courteous to do the same to those who were offended there as well. Again, it is your choice. The choice not to is, I suppose equally "staggering in its import". Lets move on.

jym, typically lacking in logic or reason. If one is offended it does not follow an offense occurred. If feelings are bruised it does not mean an offense occurred. I was attempting to assuage hurt feelings which does not mean I gave offense necessarily.

People may be hurt or feel offended because of a thin skin, inability to reason without egocentricity, emotionality, stupidity, etc etc.

Let me sum it up one last time: I am sorry some were offended or hurt. It was not my intention and I do not believe I did anything to give offense. But I acknowledge the sensitivities of some and if my strong argumentative tone was ill received, I do apologize for not taking your sensitivities into account.

For some who took offense because I supposedly insulted the parent: we can only grow up and be fully adult when we see our parents as they are, in many ways limited human beings with all the flaws inherent to the human condition . We already see them for all the good in them. Let us also be open to the fact that they too can be vain, insecure, etc etc. if this be offensive, well, I have given more offense, haven't I?

I think your last paragraph is addressed to aibarr, and I doubt aibarr reads this thread.

Not sure why you felt the need to add another slight

Please do not explain. Don't care. For the last time, please, lets move on.

I suggest you guys move this to PMs.

...or, you know, the middle school cafeteria. Perhaps you can throw mashed potatoes at each other.

AH my thread about econ joint majors turned into 3 pages of..... what are you guys exactly arguing about?

Ah, I came here to get some useful information about Economics-Operations Research, which I am currently interested in pursuing, but I encounter this!! I thought this was a discussion forum where I can get useful information about college life and such!

I will attempt to restart....

Is anyone considering Economics-Operations Research at Columbia and have good advice in pursuing this field? I am going to be a sophomore this fall and I've taken Calc II, III, and Principles of Econ. I will be taking Intermediate Micro, Macro, and Linear Algebra this fall and probably IEOR 3600 Intro to Stat and Probability, Financial Econ, and Computer Science C1004 in the spring. Does anyone know how the actual operations research classes are? I haven't taken such a course before but it seems really interesting. And if I got placed out of Calc I with AP Calc AB score of 5, do i need to take Calc I again in college for the sake of the major requirement? Thanks for any help.

i have no advice, but i'll be in your macro class if you're taking it under xavier

^best class I ever took, life changing, sit close to the front and pay attention to this guy.

and ofcourse you don't need calc 1,

I'll be there too lville
