<p>I personally feel that Cal Poly Slo is overrated sometimes. They are really known for their engineering and architecture. But for whatever reasons, people tend to compare their Econ and Business programs to the top UC schools.</p>

<p>Cal Poly SLO and Ponoma’s Business (and IS) program is better than UCSBs but UCSBs econ is stronger than the polytechs.</p>
<p>@ iridetheshortbus. Well I guess I can agree with you on that since UCSB doesn’t have a business program to begin with. They only offer Econ&Accounting major which is probably the closest thing to Business.</p>
<p>In the USA, everything is business. It is a common misperception that econ and accounting is the closest thing to business. Each are very distinct subjects unless the individual institution created hybrid program.
At UCSB, that is part of their research and focus in how they carved a niche to create a Business Econ major. It also sounds more interesting and savvy than a degree in Accounting, Stats, or Actuarial Science. At the majority of institutions over the past decade they merely created hybrid business programs to adjust to the market of 18 to 24 year olds who were taken in by such misperceptions.</p>

<p>I don’t know much about UCSD’s econ program but Cal Poly and UCSB are on par with each other. From the feedback of my friends, the ones that went to Cal Poly for business and/or econ really liked their program. My friends who went to UCSB liked their business econ program but found it more tedious with less options of concentration. Cal Poly in general tend to offer a couple of more concentrations for their business and econ majors. It all depends what you want to get out of it and what direction you are heading. Oh, and where you want to live too.</p>

<p>UCSD for economics (academically). But remember you most likely won’t be going into economics when you graduate. Unless you planning to go to grad school in economics, you will most likely aim for business positions just like any other business major. </p>
<p>I would look at the school’s network. See what firms recruit at the school and where previous graduates have placed. Look at which ones meet your goal and choose from there.</p>
