I have been thinking about majors. But I'm not sure what happens after I get my degree. So I spent 4 years getting a major in econ, or psychology. What now? =P

Over the course of those 4 years you will meet with advisors, go to career counseling, and try out jobs in internships. A college doesn’t just teach you and then dump you in the real world wondering " now what." well, it shouldn’t. And you shouldn’t let it.

Those that are really serious about Econ, go on to get their MBAs. Similarly, most who want careers in Psych go on for Master or PhD degrees.

That is not to say that is the only route. You can always apply your skills to other areas, although it may be difficult initially.

Well I like psych but I don’t want to get a masters/phd in psychology for sure. Would it be useless for me to pursue it in college?

It’s hard to say. You may want to talk with a career counselor. I’m not going to say don’t major in it, just educate yourself on career prospects.

It will be very hard finding a job as a Psychology major.

:D

A lot of people do it and move into related fields. Yes, it can be difficult, especially in a market such as the one we are in now, but it can be done. There is not much you can do in the field of Psych with only a BA in Psych, although there are some low paying positions with Residential Treatment Centers, etc. These are probably the not the types of positions you would want long term, but rather steping stones. You could look into research, but you will need to find out educational requirements there.
