Economic diversity

I am Latino, of lower-class socioeconomic background. How affordable would Brandeis make itself if it admits me? Are there many students from the lower socioeconomic stratum at Brandeis?

Call the office at 781-736-3500. Ask for Rob Andrews. When you get him, tell him that you're a Latino from a lower-class family, and ask about the Martin Luther King, Jr. scholarship. It's a free ride to students to promote social and economic diversity, and a fantastic program.

Hey... I've met that guy before. He was cool, he told me he's reading my app; which is only slightly terrifying ;).

Honestly, it's much easier to be a minority of a lower socioeconomic background- especially urban- than a white Jewish kid from the suburbs of a lower socioeconomic background. My family has lived for several years well below the poverty line yet I didn't qualify for any of the economic diversity scholarships because they're mostly geared towards minorities or inner city kids. However, if you fit one of those two groups (or both), there's plenty of options for you and some of my best friends got the MLK scholarship.
