Economics and Engineering

I have recently decided to switch my focus on pre-med to picking up an economics double major with chemical engineering. I decided that I did not truly want the extra years of schooling and would like more freedom in my future career path. I have a few questions about this decision:

1) What are some possible career paths for me when I graduate in two (maybe 3) years that would utilize both degrees? Any idea what type of salaries these positions receive?

2) Would an MBA (probably in finance) after 4-6 years of experience significantly increase my pay/chance of promotion? Are my current grades (3.6 overall) competitive for the top MBA programs?

3) Would the double major and MBA provide a strong enough background for me to eventually start my own company?

Typically, it’s best to have two majors that compliment one another. In all honesty, I don’t see Econ and Chemical Engineering doing that.

Have you thought about Econ and Industrial Engineering? Over the summer, I had a friend that double majored in IE and communication and got three job offers over $58,000. I compare his Communications degree and Econ because, he had a specialization in Organiztional Behavior with many communication electives in Economics.
