I have been juggling these three potential majors/minors around, and would just like some advice on what would be the best combination, which would give me the most flexibility in job market as well as which would be worth more of my time and effort.
Well what career would you like to pursue?
Sounds like you want to work on Wall Street. Those are the three of the most targeted majors by investment banks.
I would recommend going to school and taking some classes in all of them, then after you’re through the low level courses decide which direction you’re more interested.
It really is a question more about you than the major. You could study econ, or finance, or CS, or anything else but just because it is in demand doesn’t mean it will be in demand tomorrow. But more importantly, you’re more likely to succeed when you find a path that is right for you. If you’re not really interested (or passionate) about your course of study, you can still push through and do well at it but you likely won’t excel at the level that will lead to the type of career success you want. It is better to find the thing that you’re so focused on that it doesn’t feel like work (and then pick up some complementary disciplines that will help you in your career).
You can’t go wrong with any of them and they are all great to pair. Obviously, Finance and Econ will have the most overlap as far as coursework goes.
Some schools offer a combination and it’s more seamless. For example, Economics/Finance at Bentley. Are you already in school?
I’m very interested in pursuing a career as a financial analyst, but I am very it is a hobby of mine to program and code, which is why I consider computer science. I wouldn’t mind working in a job that required me to do so really.
Thank you!
I’m not in college yet (senior in high school), but my main choice right now is UT Austin.
