Economics&Finance double major?

Hey guys, lately I’ve been wondering if double majoring would be a good idea, or if I’d be in over my head. In the fall, I’m transferring from a CC to a private college within my state. It’s not a super well known school nationally though, so keep that in mind. I’ve been thinking about double majoring in Economics and Finance, but I’m wondering how smart that would be. I’ve also thought of just majoring in Economics, and then trying to go to somewhere like UT-Austin. I believe they have a 9 month master’s that concentrates on Finance. Ultimately, I’d like to be a financial analyst. At this college, six of the courses (so 24 credits) overlap with each other which is why I really started to consider it. In total, the Finance degree is 64 credits and the Economics degree is 48. When I get to the school I’ll already have 8 of the Econ credits taken care of. The college is on a 4-1-4 system, and I could also take a few classes in the summer. Do you think I’d be able to graduate in 2 years? Thanks for any input, and sorry if I rambled!

The best way to answer this question is to sit down with an advisor very early in your first semester at the private college and ask them. Show them the course plan, discuss your career goals and ask if it makes sense and is doable in 2 years. My guess is that if all or nearly all of your general education requirements are completed, then you might be able to do it, but if you have any GE or other college requirements to satisfy then a single major will probably be a better bet to finish. But I also think you can be a financial analyst without a finance major - you just need the quantitative skills - so it might make sense to just major in economics and then take a few classes in finance.
