Economics grad?

I've been let known that some areas of study such as Engineering don't value much education over experience, for example, in that area doctorates and stuff aren't really that important, is that true?
And if so, what's the situation with Economics/Management/Business, cause I'd like to get a major in one of those areas and I wanna know if I should go to Graduate Schools afterwards, if It's that relevant in the marketplace or for job hirings.
Thanks.
