Economics Internships/Jobs

Ok, so here's the story. I'm currently considered a Junior or somewhere around that. Anyway, I'll eventually have to do a internship next year, and then obviously after that find a job. I like to plan long term, and change things if needed. I am an Economics major, so I will be looking for opportunities in the realm of Commercial Banking, Finance, Mortgages, etc. Now I have tried to shy away from IB, as I don't like the hours, since I'm more of the work/life balance type. So my question is, are the hours in IB really that bad? Are they really working 100+ hours a week. I've heard that some people at the BB banks like GS work 9-6, but that's probably rare? Besides the commercial banking sector, are there any other sectors in finance that work from 8-5 or 9-6 or whatever? Sorry for the onslaught of questions. Like I mentioned before, I like to plan things out.

I forgot to mention I go to school at Rutgers.

The people that work 9-6 at Goldman would be day-shift janitors, security guards, HR, technology and possibly certain people in operations and product control.
100+ hours a week is probably an exaggeration but it will certainly feel like it.

Keep in mind, however, that an internship is only for 10 weeks. Even if you hate it, you can and will survive for that long.
If you can get an investment banking internship, you should seriously consider taking it, regardless of whether or not you see yourself doing it long-term.

If you’re looking for a reasonable work-life balance, you’re probably best off in corporate finance ( the finance division with any large company). All of the major firms will have some sort of program. The roles will by and large be more accounting based though.

Try this and you will get a good internship in finance:
