Is investment banking really worth it????

want to become an investment banker, but I heard work hours are brutal and not much time for a social life. I want to become one after highschool but my math skills arent that great. I have a low B in math...What major should i have, I was thinking economics or finance. How long will it take to become an associate?

Investment banking tends to be a career for those with amazing math skills. You’ll either need to really improve your math or rethink your career possibilities.

So before I wanted to become an IB, I’ve been interested in becoming a corporate attorney. Too bad the market of lawyer is saturated and all dried out…:(

Don’t believe the hype - there are always jobs for top law school grads from top schools. And if you can accurately predict the job market for lawyers seven or more years in the future, you might have a career in investment banking after all.

The key in law, once you get in the door, and sometimes even before, is to be willing to do anything within your area. Too many corporate lawyers only want to do “big deals”. My wife makes a very good living as a corporate lawyer who does “little deals”. She’s also the person who writes all those privacy policies you see on websites that no one ever reads, or the clickwrap agreement you have to “sign” before using a website. It’s not “glamorous”, but she’s very good at it, enjoys it, and it’s lucrative. It’s sort of the Dirty Job of corporate law.

DQ: maybe go to college first? It seems you’re very focused on only high-income jobs… is there anything wrong with that? Ask yourself.
