Economics LACs for a Mediocre Student

Hey,

I was wondering what some good schools for Economics were. I'm planning on applying mostly to LACs. I don't have the grades to get into the Top ones like Amherst, Williams by any means, so I'd appreciate it if you could list to some mid range schools too :o

I'm a junior right now and my GPA will end up at around 3.25 probably. I'm expecting a PSAT at 200+ (Got a 190 Sophomore Year, I think) - I'll make an official "Chances" thread once I get my scores :)

I'm also an International (No Green Card, though living in America since 6th Grade).

IB Diploma Candidate (IB Magnet school). Really challenging classes (APs since Freshman year). Ethnicity - Asian. I'm really active in SGA. I also founded and preside over a Political Forum (That's basically it for the ECs, nothing too spectacular)

Allegheny, Ohio Wesleyan, Denison, Drew, Dickinson, Franklin & Marshall, Lawrence, Beloit, Kalamazoo, College of Wooster, Muhlenberg, Skidmore, Hobart & William Smith, Union, St. Olaf, Gettysburg, Earlham, Lewis & Clark

Reaches: Colby, Conn. College, Trinity, Occidental

Wow, pointoforder, you nailed it! You provided a great range of schools given the limited stats of the OP.

If I could give you a job, I would. :)

Thanks :)

Hmm, what else should I have put in my post (like what other stats?)

Also I've heard that there are no true safeties for an International student :(. Do any of the LACs out there come close?

Clark U., Worcester, MA

Thanks TourGuide. Are these Reaches/Matches or are they Safeties?

Also I looked at the list of subjects/majors offered at my local Community College and Econ is not an option - Business however is. Is this common at Community Colleges? Is it possible to major in Business, then transfer out to State U as an Econ major?

Bump :o

Given the budget pressures on colleges, your ability to pay as an international must be factored into any calculation of admissions chances from this point forward. Even the LACs that claim to be need-blind for internationals are contemplating moving away from that policy in a period of belt-tightening.

Ouch, I've been contemplating if I should ask for aid at the non need-blind colleges. Thanks for the info, I hadn't even thought about the financial crisis affecting the schools' endowment etc =/

I got a 32 on the ACT, I might retake it…if I don’t apply for financial aid what are my odds…GPA has improved to 3.35 (and will likely improve a tiny bit more)…I’ve also won a recent statewide contest relating to Econ
