Economics Major Opportunities

I am a CCC (california community college) transfer student and really want to major in economics, it's something I am passionate about. But it seems that most schools econ depts take a backseat behind their respective business programs. Is it like this everywhere, so should i just major in business instead?

I would like to go to USC, but econ dept seems to be poorly regarded. Can USC econ students tap into that USC network that everyone talks about, cause getting a top paying job after college is very important to me.

What schools are out there with good undergrad econ programs that get kids respectable jobs after college? I am thinking Northwestern (really like the atmosphere/campus), UCLA (i like the idea of combining Biz and Econ-but average accepted GPA to UCLA Biz-Econ was 3.94 last year, kinda intimidating but I am very motivated), NYU-How do they treat CAS Econ there vs. Stern Econ? UC Berkeley is obviously is top tier, but very competitive. UCSD is good but not really what I am looking for. How about Boston College? Fordham etc.? Not to familiar with east coast myself.

Any suggestions for schools that meet this criteria. Keep in mind I am a transfer student so IVY is most likely out reach.
I would actually like to get out of CA if I could and might prefer to work outside of CA.

I am open to literally applying anywhere. I realize I have a ton of questions, any answer is appreciated.

NYU Stern gets the Stern treatment. You have a @stern.nyu.edu email address. You use SternOnTheGo wifi. CAS is pretty much the just-a-number feeling, but the Economics department is one of the best in the whole world.
