So I got accepted into UCR and SDSU. I"m content with going to either one and would like to know which one would ultimately benefit me the most in terms of my major of Economics. Thank you in advance !

I’ll ask a question and then also add a tentative answer - What do you want to do with a degree in Economics? If the answer is ‘be an Economist’, my answer is that it doesn’t really matter which school you go to for your undergrad degree - You will likely have to go to graduate school to do anything within the field so find the school you like the best and go there. If you are getting an Economics degree as a general business degree and don’t plan to go to graduate school, I’d look at their overall business program and see which offers the most opportunity for internships and experience.

If you want to “be an economist” with a PhD in economics, it is best to choose a school with a strong math department and preferably an economics department with a mathematical emphasis in its economics courses, so that you can prepare yourself for the math-intensive PhD-level study in economics.

Here is suggested undergraduate preparation from one PhD program:

And some recommendations from a PhD student:

Obviously, the course numbers will differ at different schools.

They are both fine schools, which one feels most like home?

I suspect you’ll find SDSU is a nicer place to spend 4 years but, different strokes…
