Yes, I know the question is very common but I would like a fresh opinion on it, and preferably if one has first hand experience with the major.

To give some backstory, I am about to enter my second year at UC Davis as an English major, striving to become an English teacher as that is something I truly want to do. However my family gave me the condition that I need to do something more “useful” along side it for them to be happy, and an Econ major is perfect for business and such.

They suggested I do Man Econ, a very popular major in UC Davis, but this decision to do this major was actually made only a few months ago, so I am a little behind coursework since I spent my first year not taking Man Econ classes. Due to that, double majoring in English and Man Econ would be really tough. This is why I am thinking about just regular Econ.

I don’t want to shortchange myself, and I just wanted people’s opinions on whether Econ is a significant major just like Man Econ. I know the requirements are easier than Man Econ which obviously shows something, but is Econ still respectable? One is a BS and one is a BA, and I am afraid that the BA won’t look as good as the BS. Or would doubling in English and Man Econ be reasonable or would it be too much? Basically, I’m just trying to weigh out the pros and cons of each major and would like some input. Thanks.
