Economics vs. Political Econ @ Cal (PLEASE HELP)

Hi, I am desperately in need of some guidance.

I am the type of person who only works extremely hard for something if they totally and completely believe in that goal. Getting motivated in order to go to a top university then came easy for me because I knew college was important but after spending 2 years at Cal, my focus still hasn't been very clear and it's hurting me and not to mention my GPA.

I've always been interested in global economic development work but feasibly, I feel like that is one of my more "unrealistic, but good to have" larger dreams. This is mainly because you need to have a math, stats and econ heavy background, and I am only decent at maths.

So I'm thinking that I'll fall back into business or law. But I also have interests in psychology, public health and yes, helping people through these mediums - so is that non-profit or governmental work? I've taken a ton of varied classes but now the deadline to declare is basically now, and so I've narrowed down my options to Economics vs Political Economy. The former is more math heavy whereas the latter includes political science classes, and the math requirements are less intense.

The idea is Economics, I feel, is more marketable because of the math requirements, and economists in the development field or government are highly sought after. Whereas Political Economy makes you write more, and the chances of getting a higher GPA is more likely, meaning that it's a good background for law.

What do you guys think? This has been stressing me out for 2 years and I wish that I could have a better handle on my college major. It's taking a toll on me for sure.

Thanks for your time!
