Economics

Hi, I'm curious as to what current economics majors feel of their course work at UCB. For all the schools I applied to, UCB was the only one where I didn't put biology as my major. I realize that if I indeed get accepted and go to UCB, my career path will be different from the one I would have taken had I gone to UCSD or UCLA(got into both). What is the competition like among the economics majors? How many courses do economics majors take each semester? What are these courses and do they include science? Is it difficult to get A's? (don't worry, I am a hard studier so effort should not be a problem for me). Are there a lot of research opportunities and are they hard to come by? Thanks in advance.

bump....................I've gotten into UCB

Economics is an impacted major, you will compete to earn a spot.

And just a tip, A's are never a "no problem for me" here at Berkeley, esp. courses for impacted majors. You think you may study hard enough, but there are others who will always study even harder than you (unless you happen to be that one amazingly bright student one).

Lets not make too much of the average berkeley student. Most students do their work but they don't necessarily study hard. A's are not dependent on hard work. I would say its about 65% doing your work and 35% knowing what the professor wants you to know/write. Smartness usually doesn't come into accoutn, many professors just want you to recant stuff, not come up with brilliant new thesis and ideas.

Agreed. I wanted to convey the idea that studying hard does not automatically equate to a "no problem" A like high school (in most cases).
