I am currently a junior involved in 2 ecs Academics team and history club/team both of which i have joined this year. I am also planning to join yearbook for my senior year. In addition i would also add that i led an effort to start a debate team (failed due to lack of teacher sponsor).

Does it hurt me that not any of my ecs are more than 2 years deep? Or will good positions on 2 of them (1st team academic team) (2nd team moving to 1st team history team) be enough to salvage what may be perceived as a lack of commitment?

To be frank, yes. There’s nothing you can do about it at this point though. Try to get really involved in the ec’s that you do have and try to do something over the summer that could constitute as an extracurricular. ALso, make sure the rest of your application really shines so that it can atleast make up a little for your lack of ecs.

Is there anything you have been committed to over a number of years? Have you had a job? Helped out at home with a younger sibling? Been involved in church?

ECs do not have to be school related. Maybe there is something else you have been involved with outside of school.

As far as the rest of the application goes there isnt much out of school that constitutes much hope. However my gpa is 3.3 (3.4 weighted) with ap classes and a 30 act projection (i take it soon)

Though it does kinda suck that someone who waits till they are adjusted gets a less favorable opinion :(

Don’t worry about it too much. Keep up your involvement in the activities you are doing. Do your best in school and on your ACT and AP tests. Your grades are much more important than ECs. In fact, ECs don’t even matter at some schools! Furthermore, if you have interviews, that’s a great place to explain ECs, the Debate Club challenge, etc.
