EC's - Quality vs Quantity?

I know that quality is much more superior then quantity but really... I have been looking through the "What are my chances" and most of the people who have a couple ec's are basically out of range of Ivy league (Columbia is my goal).

I have a wide variety of interests but I plan to focus on business/tech, and history/politics.

My EC list by my senior year (I am a sophomore) will be something like ITLA, Writing/NHD/Concord Review (ofcourse, if I get published), MAYBE DECA, start a business/s, maybe the Congressional Page program, and I may start an MUN or Politics Club. I also plan on playing Tennis and maybe baseball.

Might I add as a note that my freshmen year wasn't that great, I got a couple C or two, and 1 A, and the rest are B's. The classes were honors.

So would you say this is a good round of EC's? I am getting quite confused as to what colleges like Columbia are looking for...

it looks fine. but then again youre applying to columbia. you either get in or you don't

most universities want to see breadth and depth

like a pyramid

interesting how everyone's ec kind of look the same
NHS, key club, un club, track, tennis, swim, violinist

i don't see any of mine;
overnight camp counsellor, peer tutor, rugby, badminton, stage band :p

Wow, how sad. Rakeon you just listed most of my ECs.

Hey A-san, your interests are just like mine. Mainly politics/history then business/tech. I'm so conflicted, so I'm having a pretty hard time to limiting my ECs from quantity to quality.

dont you love how columbia only lets you put 7 things down?
