ECs, Sports, and Time Management

So I have heard a lot about how hard it is to balance everything at the Academy, and I was wondering about extracurricular activities and such. Are most people able to join more than one ECA? I have thought about doing something such as maybe debate or shooting club, but would also like to join Fellowship of Christian Athletes or perhaps the Officer's Christian CLub. How realistic is it that I would be able to do two things on top of a mandatory sport (probablly just intramurals for me, at least plebe year)?

It's pretty hard because religious ECAs can only meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so you would have to pick ones that met on separate days. This is what I do. I have an ECA on Tuesday and a different one on Thursday. This isn't hard at all because sports period is from 1545 - 1800 (ish) and ECAs meet from 1900-2000 or a little bit later.
I've never heard of debate here, but I think the shooting club is a sport. There's someone in my company on the pistol team and that's what he does for a sport. But usually you can only pick 2 ECAs if you want to have a good role in them and go to them every week.
2 of the lesser known religious ones to check out when you get here are Baptist Student Union and Protestant Midn Club.

OK, that makes sense. And I will definetely check those out. I got the debate thing off of the USNA website. The page looked updated recently so I think it is still in existance :)...Do the majortiy of mids do ECAs or do they use that time to study, etc...?

Does anyone have more info on the combat arms team?

From what I have heard about the Combat Arms Team, is goodluck trying to make it your Plebe Year...

Plebe year is really the only time you can make it. Basically the amount of plebes they take on each year is completely dependent on the amount of firsties that graduated the year before. But yeah, there is a lot of competition to make the team.

Do most mids who join have previous experience with firearms? My dad being a cop, I was taught to shoot when I was six and I have shot everything from pistols to a submachine gun. But I never shot competitvely and haven't shot for about 5 years.

Is Combat Arms Team an ECA or is it considered a sport?

This is something I worry about to, but I figure we'll help each other out and make it all through for better or worse... =)

sounds good :)

CAT is a sport.

They only take a handful of new members every year.

You can't just sign up for it and do it like a club.

It is VERY competitive to get on CAT. I heard that before they even let you shoot to tryout, there is a PT test and that's when most of the cuts are made.
