<p>I'm a sophomore and I was talking to my senior friend that just got accepted to her dream school. Everyone was extremely shocked because it was definitely a big reach. When I was congratulating her I said something about how they must have been impressed with her essays and her hard work really did pay off. After that she informed me that she lied about nearly all of her EC's and some volunteer work. Do colleges check for some sort of proof with these things, or is it only ethically wrong? Will they find out that she didn't really do most of these things?</p>
<p>They usually don’t check (unless it’s something major), she most likely won’t be caught (unless someone contacts the admission office and tells them), and I have nothing except repulsive disgust towards your friend.</p>

<p><em>sigh</em> that’s what I was afraid of. I really want them to find out because she took away the spot of someone who actually deserved to be there, but I’m not going to turn her in… What would something major be?</p>
<p>They only check for major things you write on the application. For example, putting down that you won the International Biology Olympiad would definitely be checked. Putting down that you were in the Spanish club for 2 years will largely go unnoticed.</p>
