Does anyone know if scores from the Nov. 3rd SAT test would be considered in an ED application, even though the deadline for receiving everything else is Nov. 1? I can't find any mention of this one way or the other on Pomona's website. It leads me to think that Nov. scores would be too late, although other schools with Nov. 15th ED deadlines usually say Nov. test scores are accepted.

Welcome to CC! The best bet would be to contact the Admissions Office. D applied ED1, but I think she took the October SATs (it was two years ago).

Good luck!

Thanks for the welcome. :-)

I called the admissions office, and now I need some opinions. :-)

The person on the phone said that results from the Nov. 3rd SAT tests would be dicey in terms of being able to be considered in an ED application. Even "rushed" they might not be in early enough.

My son wants to take the SAT I again to improve his scores. They are not ghastly, but he feels very confident he can bring them up. (Currently 760-690-670.) He's taken SAT IIs in world history (770) and Math2 (730), but wants to retake that math test because he found it much easier than he expected, but didn't manage his time right and had to leave off 6 or 7 questions at the end. He'll also take the Lit test in the fall.

He has two possible test dates; early Oct and early Nov. (which may well be too late.) What would be better --in anyone's opinion-- to use that Oct date to improve his SAT I, and risk having his SAT IIs be late in the consideration process, or use the Oct. date to take the Lit test and re-take the Math2 test, and hope for the best with the SAT I scores that he already has? (He may have a boost from a coach in the ED process, too.)

I would suggest that he retake the SATI in October. His math score doesn't put him out of the running, and if he could get the SATs up into the 700s, he would look much stronger.

His SATIIs won't be late - only the newest set he hasn't taken yet might be. His 730 will show up, and I doubt that it would hurt him at all.

SoOreMom,

What sport does your son play? I'm from Portland by the way..

You'll have to rush the November scores, but they'll take them.

skyhawk, I sent you a PM re: what sport.

Thanks for the input, ASAP.

My son also knows he can do ED2 and resolve the whole issue, but he's thinking he'd like that ED2 to possibly use elsewhere if Pomona is a no-go.

I also recommend using October to retake the SAT I. I don't think the 730 Math 2 score will hurt his chances, especially if he doesn't put Math as his prospective major. I got in with a 700 for Math 2...but of course "soft" subjective factors are also important.

Thanks for the advice, chopsticks.

My son's situation is a little bit complicated by the fact that legally/technically he is a homeschooler. It's really a misnomer because virtually all of his course work for the last couple years is either at the high school (where he goes part-time) or at the local state university. But he's a homeschooler by background, and he won't graduate from a traditional high school.

Pomona wants homeschoolers to submit extra SAT IIs (can be combined with AP tests), but I assume that's because they want additional "objective" evaluations of the student's work and abilities. My son's transcript is almost all "objective" in that sense. He'll submit official transcripts of his course work from the high school and the univ. with his application.

But to be following Pomona's instructions to-the-letter, he needs a 3rd SAT II score (which will be the Lit test this fall.) I'm thinking though, that common sense --and the advice from you and ASAP-- suggests he should use the Oct. test date to get his scores on the SAT I up. I can rush order the scores from a Nov. sitting for the Lit test and the retake on the Math2, and my son can just let them know those scores are on the way. There really isn't going to be any lack of institutional evaluations of his work, even if he does technically fall into the catagory of homeschooler.

And as brassmonkey posted, those extra SATIIs from Nov. will get to them at some point in the ED deliberation process.

Thank you all for your feedback. It really does help.
