Hello. I am an ED applicant for the fall of 2016. I have submitted my application and I’m anxiously waiting for their notification. Has anyone applied to SLC ED 1? I know from previous forums that the typical SLC student isn’t into College Confidential, but it would be cool if we opened another discussion to talk about our journeys to SLC.
Have any of you heard anything?
Bump?
Hi! I also applied ED to Sarah Lawrence. I’m dying to know if I got in or not! Their website says that decisions will be released in “late December.” Should be any day now, right?
My admissions counselor called me today to tell me that I got in!! Good luck…you’ll hear back soon!
Do you know how your school was notified of the decision (email, phone, snail mail, etc)?
I was notified personally by my admissions counselor. I don’t know if my school was notified yet. I don’t know if all admissions counselors make a phone call. I live in the Northeast US, and the admissions counselor of my region might be the only one who notifies via phone call. She said that the portals will be changed too and that a letter will be sent out soon.
I´m really hoping I hear soon! I don´t know how long it´s going to take for the envelope to get to me since I live in the south (TX). By the way, before they redisigned their website, I had read that notifications were going to go out on the 15th, but like eminetalic said, they are going out in late December now. So that is very nerve wrecking!
So, decisions are out and my application was moved to the RD stack; although I thought I had a chance.
I was deferred too… I’m actually not a senior yet, so my guess is they want to see another semester of grades before they make their decision. Fingers crossed! I hope we both get in.
I don’t know why I was deferred. I’m in the top 1% of my class and had a great interview. I’m sad, but enthusiastic because I applied to Bard College EA. So hopefully I get in to either one of those two good schools. Good luck to you too!
Best of luck to all! Congrats to those who got in! To those who didn’t get in, do not fret!
I’m currently a first-year student at SLC!
@AStudent2015 I’m so excited to attend!!! I’m already trying to pick out a tentative schedule. However, I’m a bit confused about the academics. Are there first year requirements? I’m interested in film, printmaking, environmental studies and writing (I like a lot of stuff, haha). Any suggestions for teachers/classes? Is there a minimum/maximum for how many classes you can take in each discipline. How does class registration work? Also, how does the “don” system work? Do I choose my don? Am I assigned one? I look forward to hearing from you! Thanks!!
@vinylraincoat Congratulations to you! I’m sure you’ll love it at SLC! The only first-year requirement is called your first year studies, commonly called FYS. Some time in the summer, a list of courses will be sent to you to pick out your top 4 classes for your FYS. Keep in mind- that you may not get your first choice (I got my 3rd!). Your FYS decision is very important because that professor becomes your don (academic adviser). Your don is a vital source for your first year to help guide you and grow during your time at SLC. Also your FYS may end up becoming your closest companions as it’s the only class that you will have only freshmen in as all other classes are mixed. You find out your choice in August and will meet your don on your first day at SLC!
Besides your FYS, you have 2 other classes to fill. When you arrive in September, you will interview for them until you find a good match! For your first-year, you can’t take 2 classes in the same discipline (ex- 2 sociologists, 2 art classes).
Unfortunately, my 2 classes this semester were both taught by guest professors so I have very limited experiences with actual SLC professors. One professor I hope to study with next semester is Adam Brown and he is a highly coveted psychology professor. In terms of writing and film, many of my friends love the different professors and they are all pretty accomplished themselves! My don is Shahnaz Rouse in sociology. Although I do not plan to “concentrate” in sociology, I do plan on keeping her as a don in the future.
