ED 2015 Interviews

@fireandrain: Well, my interview is next week, and he’s the area chair. My parents are certain they know have known him forever, and a quick Google search confirmed this (BAM article that mentioned him…). I have a distinctive last name, so unless he did not connect the dots yet, he should know who I am. I should clarify: he’s known my parents for years; personally, I’ve spoken with him only a few times. We just never knew he went to Brown. I mean not much I can do about it at this point, right?

Just came back from it (living in Toronto, ON, got an alum interview here).
He was really nice and I wasn’t that nervous, so I think it went okay, I think.
There wasn’t anything too difficult to answer overall, IMO.

Good luck to all of you!

big dreamer: It sounds like you and the interviewer don’t know each other well - especially since you didn’t even know he went to Brown. The alum must feel he can do this objectively. I’ve interviewed students that I knew existed, and I’ve interviewed students even though I’ve known their parents. But I wouldn’t interview someone I know well.

Yeah fireandrain, we’ve figured it out now. Although he’s good friends with my parents, we don’t know each other well. I think not many applicants are applying early from my area (also lack of interviewers), so perhaps that’s why we’re going to meet. I talked to a Brown student (with experience working in admissions), and he said that all is fine and nothing to worry about. Thanks for your guidance though :)

Ahhh, my interview’s today in an hour! We’re meeting at a local library, which is a welcome change from the usual cafe venues I seem to keep getting. I honestly think I stand no chance of getting into Brown, so I can’t bring myself to worry too much about this interview…but the guy’s taking the time to speak with me, so I’ll still try my best.

Here goes nothing, I guess!

I had mine today! it was only 40 minutes long, is that bad? my interviewer was really cool and I felt like I knew her pretty well, but I’m just worried I didn’t talk enough

@benditlikebenjii: I talked to my counselor today, and he said that 40+ minutes is a “good” interview. Not always, but you want to aim for at least 40. Not sure if he’s right or not, but I hope it all works out for you :)

I applied regular, but I was contacted today.

Fireandrain: Your posts have been very helpful. Is it not worriesome if ED applicant is not contacted for alumni interview till today?. What should one do ?.

Interview write-ups are due Dec. 1. There’s still time. If you are worried, call the admissions office.

The admission office said the same thing: it is not too late and advised to wait to be contacted for interview. It may be the case that we dont have Brown Alumni for conducting interview in our area. In that case, should we contact admission / BASC office to convey that we can travel to nearby cities for the interview, if it helps. Will it be too much intrusion in the process ?. I read on the BASC web site advising to contact them if applicants are not contacted for inteview by 15th for Early Decision. I am more or less certain that the nearby bigger cities (not farther than 100 miles) will have plenty of Brown Alumni. Please let us know.

Seems to me that you should follow the advice of the admissions office, since you did talk to someone there. It’s past the 15th, so did you talk to them in the last couple days? If not, then call again.

In cities where there are “plenty of Brown alumni” there are also more applicants. So that’s not necessarily the solution. There are many possible reasons why you haven’t been contacted for an interview yet.

We contacted Admissions on 15th. We will wait for few more days and then contact again.

I think that my interviewer stated that December 1st was the deadline for interviews.

I think December 1st is the deadline for completing the interview of Early Decision applicants. I may be wrong.

I’m getting nervous! I hope I don’t get tongue-tied during my interview lolz.

As I said in #30 up above – Dec. 1 is the deadline. No ifs ands or buts about it.

Although, if you aren’t interviewed and are deferred, you can be interviewed in the regular decision round.

Good interview today; it was a relaxed conversation in a dimly lit Starbucks. I think the best advice I can give anyone is not to be afraid of being judged for your interests. We talked about international relations to technology to art to psychology. Best Wishes!

Best advice is specifics > general

Interview was awesome! I’m super glad that I didn’t bomb it. Had a very accomplished interviewer, and he was mightily impressed. What a relief! Good luck :)
