ED advice needed. Dartmouth?

I am debating schools for ED. I would be in state for Dartmouth (it is a private school but still I am in state). I am looking at Barnard College, Cornell, Hopkins, Vanderbilt for ED. Maybe even Dartmouth depending on if I have a shot.

I am interested into the following schools….

Barnard College (ED?):
Boston College:
UChicago(EA):
UC Berkeley:
Cornell(ED?):
Hopkins(ED?):
Georgetown(EA?):
Tufts:
Rice:
Vanderbilt (ED?):
UMich(EA):
NYU:
Northeastern:

Please predict me at the above schools.

My intended major is Pre-Law (Political Science or History)

I am interested into all of those schools, which one should I apply ED to? I want to apply ED to the school that I have the best chance at.

Thank you!

You have an impressive resume! Of all the schools on your list, I think your best bet of acceptance is Barnard. I think you can probably get into Barnard without applying ED.

You definitely need to add some safeties. BC, NYU, and Northeastern are not safeties - they are matches. Everything else looks to me like at least a low reach. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t apply to them - just that you never know what’s going to happen in the admissions game and you should have some schools that you know you can get into - obviously UNH would be a candidate. Just make sure you find a school that you wouldn’t mind going to if everything else fell through. Maybe something like Providence in RI.

I’m not really sure where Michigan falls on the spectrum. You’re out of state, so admission is more difficult, but it may be that your chances are better than I’m thinking since you’re coming from NH and not one of the more heavily populated states. I know somebody from the Philadelphia area who was rejected from Michigan with SAT’s just below 1400 , which I believe is the equivalent of a 31 SAT.

Anyway, good luck and don’t forget to put a safety on there!

@halfemptypockets I am applying to Northeastern EA so I’ll know if I need to add UNH for regular decision. Northeastern EA is kind of my safety if I get in. If I get in, I won’t apply to UNH.

EA schools:
Northeastern
UVA
UChicago
UMich

ED: TBD

Hopefully I’ll get in somewhere EA.

Your list doesn’t say much about what you want from a college. The only thing the schools on your list have in common is their relative prestige. So what are you looking for? Northeastern is known for technology and career placement, but I’m not sure how strong it is in history or poli sci; Dartmouth is an Ivy, but it’s also a major party school. BC is super preppy and very, very white. What about the schools, other than their caliber, appeals to you? Thinking about it this way may help to take some schools off and add others, such as liberal arts colleges, to your list.

I’m not really at all familiar with UNH. I do know that some state schools, like Penn State and UMass, for instance, become increasingly difficult to gain admission if you wait until after Christmas to apply. Just confirm that UNH will be available to you before you hold off applying until the new year. Otherwise, throw in Providence or some other school.

@halfemptypockets UNH is basically an auto-admit of anyone from my school. Many eople have gotten in with a 2.5 -3.0 GPA and a 1200-1600 SAT.

Northeastern also admitted 60% of all of the applicants from the school. The average stat on Naviance is 3.9 GPA with a 28 ACT. The lowest admitted EA was a 2.5 GPA with 21 ACT.

Hopefully I’ll get in, if not, I’ll apply to UNH and maybe Providence or URI.

@massmomm What I really like about Northeastern is their co-op program and internships. It has also many majors including international studies which I heard is pretty good from current students.

My major ideology in deciding schools is their academics. While prestige is part of it, academic is always the big part. With Dartmouth, it is close to home and I am very familiar with it.
