I realize that Northwestern and Dartmouth are Early Decision application schools. I love both schools and would like to apply to both. I also plan to apply to the University of Chicago. I am not sure how I should prioritize my admission application deadlines with respect to ED and EA.

All things being equal, is there any advantage with ED application at Dartmouth over Northwestern or visa versa? I understand that I would be able to do regular admissions at the school that I do not ED apply, provided I am not accepted at the ED school. Can I do Early Admission at U of Chicago at the same time I do ED at either Northwestern or Dartmouth?

Think to yourself...Which school do I want to go to the most? That is the school to apply to. I would recommend Dartmouth, because the ED will help some, but I am sure it would at NW also.

Thanks rmadden15. Right now it is a dead even 50/50 split as far as my personal preference goes. Really love both schools and can see myself at either school for the next 4 years. U of C would be my third choice but I love that school, too!

if you're asking which you have a better chance of admission at, i'd say northwestern in general. i have a friend that got in RD without visiting or showing interest and was rejected from dartmouth.

but, it comes down to which school is right for you, which i can't really help you with seeing as i don't know your stats and interests! dartmouth is preppier, northwestern is a bit geekier.

I have visited Northwestern and U of C last month. I also spent the summer prior to my 9th grade year at Northwestern taking a course in history. I will visit Dartmouth next month. My uncle attended Dartmouth 20+ years ago and still raves about his experiences. I love the idea of being so close to Chicago, which is a big plus for attending NU. Chicago is my favorite city in the world. Yet, I' ve read nothing but glowing things about Dartmouth.....the faculty, students, etc. Even the cold winters don't seem to be so bad in Hanover, from what I've read.

^ You sound like your are really interested in Dartmouth, so go for it. Northwestern is nice, and so is U of C, but they can wait for Dartmouth. If I were you, I would apply to U of C EA, and then Dartmouth ED.If you are denied at Dartmouth, but accpeted at U of C, you have to make a choice. I would rather go to U of C over Northwestern, and I think you would too.

Thanks for the advice. I know U of C has a very high national ranking. Do you know what the rule is on EA? If you are rejected via ED but admitted via EA is that binding right away or do you have until a later date to accept?

EA isn't binding, so there's no risk attached. Dartmouth ED is more selective than Northwestern, but if you prefer Dartmouth (I know I do!) I would do Dartmouth ED.

I'd say Dartmouth ED, just because it's an Ivy and therefore probably the most selective out of the 3 schools you mentioned. Statistically, you'll get an advantage in the admissions process.
However, I say that you should just apply ED to the school you think is the best fit. Consider its location, student body size, diversity, etc. Do they have good programs for your intended major? Just try to narrow it down until you feel as if one of those three would be the one you would love to attend if you were accepted ED.
