ED BU Applicants for 2022

Now that I can type this without sobbing, i thought I’d share my stats!

ACCEPTED!
Major: International Relations

Race: White
Gender: Female
School: On the bigger side, it’s a really good school ranked in the top 50 of NJ
Financial Stuff: I am very very lucky and basically financial aid is not a concern

UW GPA: 3.66
W GPA: 3.82 (Just for reference this is the average accepted weighted GPA for kids at my high school who got into Boston U and Northeastern)

SAT: Not submitting it but I got a 1280… funny how much better you can do on one test versus the other!
ACT: 30, super score 31
Reading: 34 1st time, 32 2nd
English: 33, 31
Math: 25 1st time, 27
Science: 29, 30

Courseload (no IBs at my school):
I’ve taken mostly honors and AP classes with the exception of my math classes and my senior year courseload is AP Lit, AP Environmental Science, AP Psych, AP Human Geo, and AP Gov
Last year I took 3 APs and my results on the test were:
AP Lang (4)
AP Gov (5)
AP Photo (5)

Activities:
-Written two books that are published on a website/app and they’ve gotten over 170k reads combined and were both ranked in the top 100 of their genre worldwide (like a million books or something)
-Thespian Honor Society (9-continuing)
-Lots of plays and musicals, played a lead last year and I have a leadership position in helping out the underclassmen and being like a role model this year that is like being a team captain for theatre (idk how else to describe it) (9-continuing)
-I joined a new program in my county where we are working on making the high schools more welcoming to diversity and helping some of the students in our county who can’t speak English (they immigrated from Latin American countries in the last five years) and aren’t treated equally and with respect in our community
-Photo Club (11)
-Church Youth Choir (10-11 was discontinued in 11th grade)

(I’m also in these but you can only be inducted at the end of our junior year at my school just so you know:
-NHS
-English Honor Society

Volunteer Stuff:
-Student director for my middle school’s musicals (11 and 12)
-Was on the planning committee for an Ultimate Frisbee Tournament where all funds went to a school/home for boys who struggle with various issues such as mental health and family issues (11)

I think my Common App essay is pretty strong, I would give it an 8/10, it talks about my love of photography but my intro is really interesting, it is me chasing after an eagle trying to get a picture of it lol

Teacher Recs:
9th grade English teacher: 10/10, she is the director for the musicals at my school and I have known her since I was in 7th grade, and she said it was easy to write my rec because “there are so many wonderful things about you” (her words not mine lol) so I think it was probably very strong
11th grade English teacher: 8/10, she apparently used very specific examples and is known to write great letters–I love her!!
Counselor: 7/10, she wrote about all of my family issues and explained that for me so it is probably less about who I am as a person and more my family issues

Hooks (? I don’t really want to call it this but): Family issues, witnessed a traumatic event involving family

I did have the thank you message just so the Class of 2023 knows. Congratulations to everyone who got in and to those who were deferred, I’m rooting for you!!!

Ahhhhh such a good day!! I got in! Also for the class of 2023 that may be freaking out like I did this year I had “thank you…” for the message

@sunflowerlover omg I didn’t know we were both majoring in IR! We should totally meet up next year!

Ok, this is my final entry on this thread and College Confidential in general. I’m gonna give all my info I personally thought was helpful while applying to colleges in an effort to help out anyone who looks at this thread in the future. Please keep in mind that I was accepted. Let’s start with my stats:

I applied to the College of Arts & Sciences
I had an SAT superscore of 1330
Never took the ACT
I had a 3.9 weighted GPA (Which rougly translates to 3.3 UW, don’t quote me on that though)
By the time I finish senior year I will have finished 7 APs
For extracurriculars, I was able to fill out the 10 spots the common app gives you along with a couple honor societies, but being honest, my ECs were nothing compared to what some people on this website claim (I once saw on a thread to a really really bad school that someone claimed to be a published author, like why aren’t you applying to Harvard???) I also didn’t apply for financial aid.

Now for the message. Once you apply to BU, you will get an email giving you a username and password for your applicant link, AKA the place where you get your final admission decision. Once you sign in, there will be a like 4 paragraphs but the only important one worth reading a second (or maybe third) time is the first one. In the first sentence, mine wrote “Thank you” and “Early Decision candidate”. According to everyone else on this thread, in case you haven’t read them yet, everyone with that message got in. People who had “Our records indicate” in their first sentence got deferred or denied. While you may believe this is a coincidence, please keep in mind that this whole thread is about 40 pages of anxiety and fear over if the first sentence in the first paragraph means you got denied or accepted. Like seriously, this thread could be used for a psych class to explain how humans go from order to chaos in the matter of days. Call it a coincidence if you’d like, but EVERY single person for the past 3 years who had the “Thank you” Message got in and everyone with the “Our records indicate” either was deferred or denied. Also, I noticed I had the Thank you" message as early as 12/4/17 if you want a time frame.

So there you have it, my college admissions experience. I’m sorry to the owner of this thread for bringing up the “Thank you” and “Our records indicate” controversy in the first place. I turned your innocent little thread that was just asking around who else applied ED into a war zone of fear and destruction. I would also like to thank everyone who added a meaningful contribution to this thread for future classes. If you got in, I can’t wait to see you there. If you were deferred or denied, I wish you the best of luck.

@raspberry29 OMG YEEEES IR BUDDIES <3

@sunflowerlover omg yes! Wanna add me on insta? User is katyatminskk

I wish to clear this up for class of 2023. AT FIRST your applicant link will say “our records indicate” but it will also say “Early Decision candidate.” Everyone’s starts off like that. 1-2 weeks before decisions come out, the applicant link will change to either “Thank You” with Early Decision or “Our records” WITHOUT Early Decision. The portal link changes a few weeks before decisions come out. ALL links start off with “our records indicate” but they still have the words early decision. Best of luck to class of 2023 and those deferred, I hope you guys are eventually accepted!

@raspberry29 done!! :slight_smile:

@Marianoavila And now watch the BU system admins change the messages around to cause massive confusion with the class of 2023

Anyone admitted to COM school?

I was!

still confused how i got in
4.12 w, 1250 SAT to CAS-Philosophy and Political Science

I’m writing this because throughout the years SO many people have told me how expensive BU is and they’re not generous financially how you need to have perfect scores to get substantial scholarship etc. I received almost $67,000 in scholarship and aid and here are my stats. I’m mainly posting because I wouldn’t consider them so standout compared to BU’s average sat etc:
White, female
4.011 W GPA (small public school, competitive)
1350 SAT single seating
APs
Bio (3)
US Gov (4)
US history (5)
Lang (5)
World (3)
Senior year:
APs
Stats
Physics
Econ (macro/micro)
Lit

As far as clubs I’m just going to list what I think stood out I’m not going to list all:
Frelinghuysen youth advisory board
Started a club in regard to mental heath awareness
NHS
community service (quite a few hours; nothing major)
Online courses in my free time
Captain of my field hockey team

I had a really good relationship with my teachers and guidance counselor so I’m pretty sure my letters were strong
Common app essay about just kind of my life (parents divorce, moms cancer when I was in middle school)
All I can say is that if you truly want a school, put your heart and soul into your application and ANYTHING can happen!!! I’m over the moon

Does BU send anything out in the mail??

If anyone was admitted to the Honors College, please let me know! I wanna chat!

Guys!! An admission counselor said this year was BU’s most competitive year yet and they haven’t gotten to RD yet!!!

what were your stats? i was considering applying ed 2 but not sure if ed 1 ppl with stellar stats are getting deferred

I was deferred. Do all ED applicants who don’t get accepted get deferred? Or do they actually deny certain ED applicants? I can’t seem to find a solid answer for this and I haven’t seen anybody say they’ve been denied yet.

Colleges say that each year @sunflowerlover. It’s typical to make such claims.

Anyone else admitted to the business school?
