ED Carnegie Mellon

I want to ED to Carnegie for SCS but idk how I'm going to do.
GPA - 92.7
SAT - 2100 superscore, took it yesterday, hoping for higher.
Really little extra curriculars. I love going to the gym but I hate sports teams because of time constraints.
I took/take classes like APCS, APCALCBC, Multivar calc, APPsych, APphysicsB, Softdev.
My essays aren't too bad.
So how would I do :)

oh and I don’t have a humanities rec -_-
I have one from my math teacher and one from my computer science/math teacher

CMU CS is one of the absolutely most competitive programs out there.
You are way, way off from being a competitive applicant (think about 250 more SAT points for example).

I don’t think you should waste your one ED on something that out-of-reach for you.

CMU ED: High Reach

Test scores are bit low, and EC’s are nonexistant. You can still get in, of course! Apply if it’s your dream school :)

CMU ED: Impossible because u need 2 sat2 also
Test scores are goner. Get that up first. If you got little EC,

 1. SPECTACULAR ESSAY …a killer one
 2. Raise ur test score to 2300+ range
 3. YOU NEED SUBJECT TESTS TO GO TO CARNEGIE

Oh i got 730 and 790 on chem and math2 soph year, forgot to say that. Would I be better off EDing to Cornell?

Those are great scores… just low for uber-competitive CMU SCS.

Is there a reason you seem keen on ED? In most cases, binding ED is not a good idea. It takes away the ability to compare options.

I want to ED so I don’t have to worry about college apps for regular.
:(

Kelvin - I advise you take a long term view here. I’m an engineer myself and researched engineering colleges for two kids. There is a lot of variation in programs etc. The only reasons to hone in on one for ED is that you KNOW it is the one for you. You should not do it because you are too lazy to fill out more applications or are antsy about waiting a few months for decisions. College is a HUGE investment for you parents - work hard to find the best choice.

Sorry to sound harsh - just want you to think hard on this while you have time to prep other apps. Good luck!
