ED class of 2020

Does anyone know whether more get rejected or deferred from ED? And does a deferral from early have any factor on regular admissions? Thanks

@Tomato558 I heard from my college counselor that for Georgetown University, many many many early applicants are deferred rather than rejected so that they can be considered in the regular decision pool of applicants. I’d think the same applies for WashU, though I’m not 100% sure.

Thanks for the info. I actually know a couple of kids that got deferred ED from wash u and got in regular.

Does anyone know the percentages for acceptances, deferrals, and rejections this year for ED?

Lets not sound like sour grapes…
Congratulations to those who got in… prestigious achievement.
For others, be positive that amazing options are still out there.

@Tomato558 @mvsrocks is correct in saying that a very large portion of ED applicants are deferred rather than rejected. In terms of actual statistics @yslxoxo those are unfortunately rarely released, or at least I haven’t been able to find them anywhere. For all those that have been deferred, my main advice is to continue to show interest in WashU and notify them if they are still you’re top choice (don’t lie). Another recommendation is to talk to your regional admissions officer about what you can do to further strengthen your application/where you can send update of achievements and other things you weren’t able to include in your ED application.
To all those that were accepted, CONGRATULATIONS! To those who were deferred, I applied ED last year and was deferred, but I just finished an incredible first semester at WashU, so don’t give up!!! And to those who were rejected, college is what YOU make of it, and I know you will all find somewhere where you can thrive!

I haven’t been as active recently because of finals and whatnot, but I would love to answer any and all questions you guys might have, just message me or tag me in a question!

is business harder to get in than engineering?

It would be helpful and informative to know which applicants requested financial aid and which are full pay. If people would mention that, it might help others in the future to gauge their chances.

@lostaccount have no idea why you seem to have a grudge against this school and post about financial aid affecting decisions for Wash Univ without any concrete evidence on so many threads. When challenged about this on other threads you than jump to another thread . Wash Univ is very upfront about being “needs aware” and says that FA affecting admissions decisions only comes into play when cherry picking kids off the waitlist but THATS ALL. There are many factors that affect admissions with Wash Univ(and all schools) but FA is not one of them unless your on the wt list than probably harder to get off if requesting FA at Wash Univ. Wash univ. has been brilliant moving up the US news rankings and one of the ways they do this is by taking kids with higher stats regardless of FA request and also by looking at demonstrated interest to get a higher yield which also affects rankings.

I am applying ED to WashU this year and have a similar profile to you. Did you get in?

I’m in (:
