ED deadlines : ACT scores nowhere

Took the ACT plus Writing from India on October 28th and the ACT people says that the answer folder reached them on Nov 8th.
Website says "If you take the ACT Plus Writing, your reports will be mailed when all of your scores, including Writing, are available, normally in 3–5 weeks."

I have applied for ED and have no clue whether the scores will reach in time or not. Is there anything I can do such that the scores reach the university in time?

thnx

I called the ACT about this (my scores were also delayed and I'm applying EA somewhere). They said you just have to keep checking for scores- they're updated on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays online. Until they're up online, they're not graded, meaning no colleges can receive them. The woman I talked to said for EA/ED the best thing to do is call the school and ask them how often they receive scores (and how- by mail or digitally), and when they absolutely must have ED/EA scores by. Then you can see if you'll need to have yours rushed (which costs money, unfortunately) to get them there in time. UGH.

vegangirl : thanks for ur advice. ill check out with my univ about the scores. btw hav u got ur scores yet ? i hope ACT will report the scores by next 1 or 2 weeks

My intuition says that we should get them by the beginning of next week.

The same timeframes (3-5 weeks, etc.) that apply to testing inside the US do not apply to international testing.

Scores from tests taken outside the US are not available online. If you are in India, scores will probably reach colleges long before they reach you.

Did "the ACT people" say anything else? Did you ask whether your scores were in yet, or if they'd gone to colleges? Maybe they can tell you if it's just waiting for writing scores, and how long that might take for international testing?

Mrs. Ferguson: I had emailed the ACT Universal Testing, and they told that my answer folder has reached them on Nov 8th and they cannot answer any of my questions untill it has not completed the scoring process. I am not worried about the ACT scores reaching me but they should reach my ED University by time. Is there anything I can do to be sure that the scores reach on time?(any special request to the ACT office or something like that?). thank you.

Mrs. Ferguson: I'm a student in the US, and I still can't see my scores online. Would you guess there are many tests that remain ungraded at this point? Because I desperately need those scores for early action.

slimshady, when do the scores need to be at the school? Have you asked them when ACT scores actually need to be there, or are you going by some published application deadline? In most cases, ACT scores do NOT need to be at the school by the ED application deadline.

No, there is nothing you can do. It is probably waiting for your essay to be scored, and I am sure they score them as fast as they can. And everyone needs their scores for a deadline.

vegangirl, it sounds like a small minority--maybe around 5%--of tests don't even have multiple choice scores up yet. If I were you, I would check every day. There have been scattered reports of one or two people getting their scores on different days than the main ones. Have you talked to the school as the woman advised?

the school's admissions office has been closed this week because of thanksgiving. hopefully i can call on monday and get it all resolved. and hopefully i'll be seeing scores monday as well.

the university says that scores should reach them by dec 1. i hope that my scores get released by this week

My EA school also told me scores MUST reach them by Dec. 1. When I called the ACT people, they basically told me that mine still has not been graded and there's absolutely nothing they can do about it. Since my EA school receives scores digitally on Wednesday and Friday evenings, it probably has to be out by Wednesday for me to even be in the EA pool anymore. If I get deferred because they don't have my scores, I'm going to be crushed. I'm SO ****ed at the ACT right now.

I called up the ACT Records just now and they said that my scores are ready :) and will be sent tonight ! FINALLY !!

vegangirl, dont worry. my sincere hopes that ur scores will be out by this wednesday.

vegangirl, I sympathize with your anger and frustration. ACT does state on their website and elsewhere that scores can take up to seven weeks.

I would hope they would take scores received Friday night; otherwise, why bother saying Dec. 1, if they don't even get scores on Nov. 31? Scattered scores do seem to come out on days other than Wed. and Fri., too.

Nov 31 ?? :)

Whatever day Thursday is!

vegangirl, Yale's website says "October is the last month in which the ACT may be taken for Single-Choice Early Action consideration. February is the last month in which the ACT may be taken for consideration under Regular Decision. There is no guarantee that the committee will receive February scores in time." That implies that they DO guarantee that October scores will be in time for EA, and they should know that ACT scores can take 7 weeks, so how can they say your scores have to be there by Dec. 1?

They also say they accept the ACT without writing if the writing test is "not available" (for example, for some international students). Since you were required to take it at school and weren't given the option of taking writing with it, maybe they would consider those scores after all? Have you asked them about that? Wednesday wouldn't be too late to send those scores if you called ACT before 4:30 central time.

I'm guessing that since probably 97% of exams are graded by now, Yale just assumes that if you take it in Oct. they'll get the score by Dec. 1st. Not sure though.

And thank you for your suggestion about the test w/o writing. I did send them my score from that test. I'm planning to call them again tomorrow (after I see whether or not my ACT score is posted), so I'll ask then if that might be able to count because of the delay.

Thanks again for your help. I know this isn't your fault. I'm just incredibly frustrated and worried. I'm hoping it all works out for the best, though. Can't give up faith just yet...

Make sure you mention you were required to take it without writing.

ACT said that my scores were sent to my ED university electronically on monday night or tuesday morning but as of now the university says that my scores have not yet reached them. can you pls. tell me how long does the scores take to reach the university 'electronically'? is there any way i can rush my scores?

Electronic score are available instantly (schools download them from a secure website or something). If the university really hasn't received them, they might just not have processed those scores yet. Did you tell them the scores were sent electronically on Monday/Tuesday? It's also possible they aren't locating your record. Do you have an SSN that you used? If not, did you get your ACT ID from ACT and tell that number to the person you talked to at the school?
