For those that applied ED, does Columbia want you to send them the first marking period grades? I looked on the tracking site and didn't see that being one of the requirements.

Yes, you need to send your first-quarter grades to the Admissions Office as soon as they are ready. This is listed in the FAQ section of the Columbia Admissions website.

I inquired the Department of Admissions about this, and they told me that I must send my grades in. You can do it by mail or send them to ugrad-confirm@columbia.edu (what I did).

If they’re good, they should help your application

what if your school only does grades by semester?

You should probably call the admission office about that.

I am still waiting for the grades for one of my online courses so I think I need to wait until that comes in before I have the school send. At this point, my senior grades aren’t stellar so it wouldn’t help. I had some really hard teachers and I got sick for a couple of weeks that really brought my grades down. I know Columbia looks for all A’s but when I look at some of the college tracker, I do see they take some gpa’s that are in the lower range. Are these just the legacies, URM or athletes?

Well, your 4 essays, teacher recommendations, and ECs are also highly important. Being legacy/URM/an athlete certainly helps, but it’s not everything. If you look at “results” threads on CC, you will see many people who are URM or legacy who have also been rejected/deferred.
