If I recall correctly, most if not all Ivies are almost need blind financially, so applying to the Universities with ED (Cornell, Dartmouth etc) wouldn't be too much of a risk would it? Since even if you are bounded to the college, you would be financially supported since it's a need blind school?

Not necessarily.

There is a huge difference between “need blind” and “meeting full need”. Need blind= the need for financial aid is not an inpediment to admissions.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Need-blind_admission

I don’t think Cornell’s FA is full need like Harvard, Yale, or Princeton. However, I think Dartmouth is very generous (I do not know exact figures, and I could be wrong).

EDIT: Dartmouth meets full DEMONSTRATED need. <a href=“Home | Financial Aid”>Home | Financial Aid;

Also, demonstrated need is determined by the school, not by the applicant’s family. The school can claim to have granted you a good enough financial aid package when in reality, the amount of tuition and bills is still beyond your parents’ comfort level.

Hard to beat HYP for aid

In addition to xrC’s comments, be aware that except for a handful of schools, FA packages are comprised of WS, grants AND loans.

I can see it’s time for all srs and their parents to read this thread:

Not all Ivies have ED.

Harvard, Princeton: no
Yale: non-binding early action

The rest have ED. Go to their financial aid webpages and see if they have an online calculator that will give you an estimate of your potential aid award. Also, check each school’s policy on packaging loans in their aid awards. They do differ.
