Rigor: Maximum (Dual Credit/Honors, no AP offered)

Rank: 21 of 79 (I have two c’s: geometry and Spanish I. Despite this, I have a 98 in Spanish II on my transcript and a 95+ in all of my math classes aside from geometry. The year I got those c’s (freshman year) I missed ~18% of the school year, so I was at a serious disadvantage.)

Interview: 9.5/10

Recommendation Letters: 10/10, they were written by two teachers who adore me.

Common Application Essay: 8/10 (It wasn’t my best, but it wasn’t bad. It basically just told the tragedies of my life: two dead siblings, divorced parents, and a father who hates me.)

Awards/Honors: National Merit Scholar Commended and 1st in TMTA Precalculus Competition

Extracurriculars/Job:

7 years in concert band as an alto sax player (Section leader for 3)
5 years in marching band as an alto sax player (Section leader for 3)
Founded a jazz band
1 year of student council
3 years of NHS
1 year of chess club
1 year of shooting sports club

Potentially good chances with that ACT + first gen/rural high school. Class rank situation isn’t ideal, but if you have a counselor who explained an extenuating circumstance justifying a period of low grades, and your grades are otherwise in the top of your class, you have a chance. It all depends on how the committee interprets the subjective portions of your application.
