Ed ii chance me please :)

Hello I am a white, Jewish, OOS, female, applicant to Vanderbilt as an ED II and I was just wonder what my actual chances are at Vandy ED II (I think pretty low lol). My intended major is Biomedical Engineering along with a Pre-Med track.

Unweighted: 3.98
ACT: 35, R:36, S:36, E:33, M:34
AP Chem: 3
AP Euro: 4
APUSH: 4

COURSEWORK:
Have taken all honors possible and have taken AP Chemistry, APUSH, and AP Euro.

SENIOR COURSEWORK:
AP Calc AB, AP Spanish, AP Psychology, AP Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, and English electives (school does not offer AP English)

EXTRACURRICULARS:

  • Helps mom and dad with autistic brother
  • Volunteers at an organization for special needs kids (Friendship Circle) since 7th grade, over 100 hours, has helped with organizing fundraisers, and I am a part of a special program where I go to a special needs girl's house for a few hours every week. I have been with the same girl for four years.
  • I am the captain of my soccer team (12th grade) and have played as a goalie since freshman year. I started my Junior year, but due to injury senior year I was an assistant coach and was solely responsible for teaching an underclassmen how to be a goalie.
  • Starting goalie for my lacrosse team since freshman year and captain (12th grade). During my sophomore year we made it to our area's championship.

-President of Young Democrats Club (11th and 12th) been apart of the club since 9th grade

-Co-president of the Student Diversity Leadership Club (been a part of the club since 9th grade). I am specifically solely responsible for planning school wide discussions.

-A classroom helper and tutor for kids in the Lower School (was a classroom aid and private tutor for two years for a kid with learning disabilities)

-Plays Baritone Saxophone for concert band and jazz band since freshman year

  • A part of Feminist, Refugee Awareness, and African American Culture Club since freshman year. Help plan fundraisers and school wide assemblies.
  • Spend time shadowing doctors at Children's Hospital every week
  • Accepted to work as a research assistant at the Juvenile Diabetes Lab at Children's Hospital starting this winter (waiting for clearances to be approved)

SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCE

  • Severe concussion end of 11th grade had to take AP tests and ACTs with symptoms. Still dealing with symptoms

HONORS/AWARDS

  • At Friendship Circle I got a “Teen inclusion Advocate” certificate
  • Was chosen to represent my school at the national Student Diversity Leadership Conference
  • Was chosen to present to the whole Senior School faculty about my experience at said SDLC conference
  • Most Improved Player for my Lacrosse team
  • By my soccer coaches I was awarded as part of the coaching staff
  • Highest Honor Roll All 3 Trimesters for 9th, 10th, 11th grade and highest honor roll for 1st trimester of 12th grade
  • Global Studies Scholar

RECS:
I think are pretty good. I have one form my English and Chemistry teacher and one from a the Chief of Emergency Medicine at Children’s Hospital that I shadow.

ESSAYS:
I think pretty good, not amazing. I am not the strongest writer, but for me the supplement (talked about volunteering at Friendship Circle) and the common app essay (talked about my experience with the Tree of Life Shooting in Pittsburgh) were good for me.

Vanderbilt is a Reach for everyone. It looks like you meet the criteria for the initial filter at the top schools. So, Vanderbilt as your ED II is not a wasted free option. However, no one knows if you will be accepted or not.

Hopefully, you have a safety that you are comfortable with as a high floor. Then, with that high floor, apply only to colleges you like better. Once you have that high floor anything else is icing on the cake. Good luck!
