I applied ED II, in hopes that it would boost my chances of acceptance. I've read posts where people complain that they got a 2100 on the SATs-THATS A DAMN GOOD SCORE-so I don't know how I stack up to those people-Im average. the one good thing I got goin for me is that I turned in the Arts supplement w/ 12 works.

SAT: 1830 (600 writing, 600 math, 630 Critical reading)
SAT II: 560 literature, 530 US history

GPA: UW: 3.9 W: 4. something

Rank: 23/637

EC: Volunteer at the YMCA
Attended many art programs
V. Tennis team- 4 years
Play guitar
-I know its not very much

Awards- California Arts scholar
Outstanding student award (for math Analysis and art)
(Honor Roll award for like 3 years)
I'm probably leaving something out

I thought My esssay was pretty good, and I wrote the optional one for Pomona. I also had an interview that I though went well.
Can anybody give me an idea of my chances- My hopes aren't high at all right now cuz I don't think I have much of a shot-

And, is it stupid that I applied ED even though mi financial situation sucks- I read Pomona gives generous Fin Aid

Your chances aren't that great. Take this with a grain of salt, since I'm not all that qualified to tell you. The problems I see is that you fall really out of the range in terms of SATs - meaning that the rest of your app should overcompensate. Your class rank/ GPA is pretty average for Pomona, your ECs are slim except for art, and awards are not very unique. ED II will certainly boost your chances, but "hope for the best/ expect the worst." Sorry.

thanks for being honest though... I'm already outlining my suicide note.

yea, sorry to be so frank. But your ECs and Stats aren't stuningly amazing. Actually they're probably not even pomona level. make sure applied to some safety schools. Cause Pomona is just a really really tough school to get in to. It'll be a high high reach for you. But it's a high reach for many many applicants too. So don't look down on yourself

i'm going to add to that "suicide note" comment. You have to understand a lot of colleges offer excellent education. I personally think Occidental, another great school but less selective, will be a nice school for you. It'll still be a slight reach, but you have a shot. Maybe you can drop that pomona EDII and apply ED II Occidental? The app is due today, and the supp. essay is a lot easier compared to Pomona's

One would wonder about the disparity between your high GPA and your test scores. Easy school or easy coursework? Hard worker who doesn't test well? I'm not as concerned as much about your ECs. Sticking with a varsity sport for four years demonstrates your commitment and you didn't provide much information about the depth of the art programs you attended. You may have been taking art classes all four years plus during the summer.

bd55's suggestion about Oxy is a good one. Good luck!

Is it really possible to drop an ED agreement- I heard schools hire hit men if you violate the agreement.

i donno... i'm pretty sure you have a very good shot at Oxy... in fact, too much of a good shot to apply early... you'll probably get in regular there if your essays are good enough... although, pomona is sure reach... tough if you can explain your SAT scores, you may have a shot... your GPA is very decent, and your ECs aren't too shabby..

I'm not sure, but I think that if you ask to be released from ED before decisions come out, then you're okay. It's only after you've been accepted and you back out of ED that you or your school gets blacklisted. Of course, ED should only be used for your first choice school, so be really really sure that you would absolutely go to the school before you apply ED. Good luck!
