l was rejected, too, with almost as long a list and an alternative application as well. Sorry to hear it Karbin, but where one door closes, another opens. Really. Also, today I had a phone conference with the Director of Admission at a school that US News and World Report ranked above Hav (not that their rankings matter, just to give an idea of the school). She told me that ED application were through the roof this year, and that she was still shocked I was not admitted. It happens. When I got my letter, I cried for 10 minutes, literally, and then I got excited about my RD schools (one of which is the aforementioned AO's school). I was worried that my rejection from Haverford augured identical results at my RD schools, some of which are statistically more competitive than Haverford. I am told this is not the case, so if you too have this fear, let it be assuaged. ED was oversubscribed, and looking at all your stats, I'm sure you'll be totally fine. Hugs to all the other worthy applicants who were rejected, onward brave soldiers!
PS-Many congrats to the admits!

/\ I'm very surprised. Don't know what's up with that. I think you guys were very competitive for HC and ARE elsewhere with the other top LACs. HC's small size makes its admissions more unpredictable I think. You should read the NYT series I linked before... kids who got WL/R from HC ED went to some other great places (some considered more selective) and are probably enjoying themselves right now at their college. If you work your other applications hard, I don't see why that can't be you as well.

Congrats to those who got in.

Hey, HC can you give us the stats on ED for this year? Can you tell us if the number of apps went up this year, and if so how did the WL/R work out percentage-wise?
Also, what are the chances for RD if we were deferred? Or if you don't know for sure, do you know from other years?

I don’t work for admissions so I don’t have exact stats… and to HC’s credit, its admissions office doesn’t advertise its numbers as obscenely as many of its peers (several which publicize stats well before applicants even know their own fate… what’s up with that? … makes a stressful process even more worrisome for expecting kids IMO).

You can probably guestimate from previous years. If memory serves me, last year, about 250-260 kids applied ED and 100 were accepted. There’s been a gradual trend of about 5-15% increase in applications each year for the last few years so about 275-295 kids probably applied this year for those 100 spots. Unlike some of HC’s peers that fill up their classes with ED1-ED2 (40-50% of entering class) HC’s has always been steady at around 33%. This means that a deferral from ED at HC is more of a true deferral rather than a likely postponement of an RD rejection like at other places.

Hey, I am from Houston. but not ED.
