There is a facebook group chat for all that have been accepted so far! Just search Bowdoin Class of 2022; it’s the page with 23+ members. Congrats! So excited for the fall of 2018
@PrepKidClassof22 Is there an actual chat going on within the group? So far the page looks pretty empty. If there’s a groupchat, I’d love to get in on that
Would love to hear a few stats – especially from those that got accepted. My child was denied; frankly a little disappointed but know that fate has intervened and all will work out. 4.4 GPA, 32 ACT, athlete, 5 AP classes.
@InquiringMom3 , I was accepted and tbh ur son has great academic achievement. It seems, especially this year, that it’s almost like a luck of the draw. They had a 25% increase in ED1 applications. They are looking for the most diverse, commited students in the pool… maybe if you could give me a bit more information about your son— like a resumé— I can give you a more detailed response. Most applicants who do apply to Bowdoin are those 4.0 high testing athletes who take AP classes and so they are looking for a “pop” of that makes sense.
@PrepKidClassof22 - 6 AP classes (english, math, psychology and science courses), attended environmental science program (intended major) thru Drexel summer 2016, Interact club, band 4 years, club soccer (ECNL), high school soccer (league champs 2 of 3 years); track/field; extensive volunteering; CSF member; summer camp leader (attended this camp for last 12 years; counselor since 2014).
Posting for a friend’s daughter- ACT 34, GPA 97, full IB/AP, leadership, fab letters, athlete, also with serious music/drama ECs, and planned STEM major. DEFERRED! Yea Gods!
yup. My daughter has all A’s with 1500 SAT. 10 AP or otherwise adanced classes (took all of them at her school except one) Great recs. 4 AP sciences. Extensive extracurricular with leadership positions. Great interviewer. Deferred. Bowdoin has reached the Pomona/Amherst level in which a great application only makes it a maybe, unless you add GREAT athlete or diversity to the equation.
It seems very competitive at all the NESCACs this year! I saw the Hamilton ED1 stats just before Bowdoin notified its ED1 applicants. Yikes!! Lots of bright, accomplished kids in the Class of 2022!
TBH I don’t know why your son was denied, especially with a strong academic profile like that.
I got deferred with a 3.54 unweighted, 3.97 weighted GPA. The only things that I think saved me were my URM status(African American), my ecs, and my 7 AP classes. I even got a C in AP Lit last semester!
Overall, I think your son has a great chance at succeeding at a great school like Bowdoin. Good luck!
Thanks for the encouraging notes and comments. Having been through the college admissions process once before, I know there are some things that appear to make “no sense” with regard to acceptances/denials. For those of you still waiting to hear (like us), know that ‘it’s just college’ and stay focused on finding the place that feels right and works for you (no one else). And I mean that in all sense of that description ‘feels right’ – that includes culture, location, academics, sports, extracurricular, financial aid…etc etc…And, if you end up somewhere that doesn’t work out, the good news is that more than likely, you can change it up!
Hang in there everyone, March is upon us!!
