My daughter is considering applying to BC as ED1. She is a good student with almost all honors classes throughout her high school years so far. She has taken an AP class last year and two in this year (her senior year). She has a 4.24 out of 4.5 for a cumulative GPA and has been involved in sports, community service and had a job. She also is going to get a recommendation from a professor at BC. She is concerned about doing ED because she is not sure she is a strong enough candidate. She did not get to take the SAT so she is not submitting scores. Any one have any advice, ED or not?
Is the school affordable? If not, don’t apply ED. Is it her absolute favorite school? If not, don’t ED.
Also, one key thing to know is an ED application isn’t given special consideration just because it is early. If a student is unlikely to be admitted in the RD round, applying ED won’t make a difference.
The school is expensive but we have the funds to pay for it and it is her favorite. She has a solid chance of getting in but since it is so competitive, you never know. I thought that ED may have her stand out since they are fewer applicants in that pool.
Yes, ED for sure if it’s affordable and this is the college she absolutely wants to go to.
I don’t know about BC in particular but applying ED can often provide a bit if a bump in terms of admission as the candidate commits to attend if accepted. I would apply ED if:
- BC is her absolute top choice AND
- The school appears affordable and the family has no need to compare financial offers from different colleges.
What school is she applying to at BC?
