My hook for the essay will most likely be about my family and how i ended up doing a lot of work for my family because of my parents' situations, I won't put too much details on here. it might sound cliche but i will have my voice in it. I'm expecting it to be pretty good.

Also, please chance me for ED! like which school I would likely get accepted to. My top choices are Duke, Brown, and Cornell.
I would appreciate any other college recommendations.

Thank you so much, I'll try to chance back!

please help! any suggestions of “match” schools?

GPA is good, SAT is okay, e.c.s are all a bunch of stuff put together. no focus. your jobs are pretty good considering you worked hard every summer.

GPA = 10
SAT = 6
E.Cs = 3
Average = 6.333
Match = Cornell

My numbering system rocks!

I’d say reach for all except Cornell, which would be a low reach.

RevSam- i dont know if it seems like my ecs are not focused, but the first three things on my ec list are all associated with the same children’s hospital, and i have been very active within them. i also help out at other hospital events. is my ec still that unfocused? /:
if i apply to duke or vanderbilt without financial aid, is there no chance that i could be accepted?

@kje4532 - FYI - Vanderbilt is the most expensive university in the nation. Duke is up there too. Ask yourself this: Do you think it’s worth paying ~$70k a year at either one of these universities when you could apply to a decent state school for a fraction of the price? You mentioned that you wrote about how you worked when your family “situations” (I’m guessing financial). Do you think if something goes wrong (God forbid) in a risky business such as hotel/motels (my dad owns a motel too), you want to put your parents through the immense financial burden of going with no financial aid?

At the end of the day, you make the decision. You have a shot at the aforementioned schools and yes, not applying for FA will give you a better shot, but you have to think if its worth it or not.

tj1994- thanks for your input. yes i know what you mean and it was just a thought, i probably couldnt even dare to go without any financial aid to those schools. if i really end up getting denied from all the school, i would go to UW (university of washington) probably with full ride. So you think if i do end up applying to those schools, i should still ask for FA? That’s probably the smarter idea huh?
