ED/Regular decision applicants?

My son was accepted with a Founders Scholarship! Just out of curiosity, does anyone know how many of these scholarships are given each year? They have a bunch at the $24k level, and I am not sure if it is fairly selective or more of a discount… We hope that he gets good financial aid on top of that - it is among his top 3 choices and my personal favorite, but it is going to come down to the financial aid…

Nice big envelope in today’s mail. Alumni Award merit scholarship $20k/year. GPA 3.0/4 honors and 1 AP, 29ACT
leadership role in local community service organization. Tennis team. I think coming from East coast may have been a draw as well.

Nothing in today’s mail here on Long Island. Guess it will come Monday.

Can people post where they are from and if your student will be attending? I am curious what states are represented here. My son is from MA. Thanks

I got the package today. Admission with $24K / yr merit scholarship. Also, paid invitation to visit the campus in Apr.

My son received his envelope today (Sat. 3/12). We live in rural New York State. Happy to see he received a Founders Scholarship ($24k/year). Similar offer from Hobart / William Smith on the table. He’ll have to think hard about fit (and we’ll see what happens with Grinnell, Hamilton, St. Lawrence, Gettysburg, Lafayette, and Skidmore). We are “full pays”, but just barely - The merit aid is certainly enticing.

Congrats to all accepted! D got Lovelace scholarship, absolutely thrilled. From OH, still waiting on couple decisions so not committing yet but high chance she will attend.

Just got home to the big admissions packet ! Super duper happy; Denison is among my top choices by far ! I’m a Chicagoian, more than likely will attend after a visit; hoping to go on the April 3rd - 4th overnight stay ! Anyone else ?

Daughter just received the big envelope! We are from Southern Califorinia She was awarded $24,000 founders scholar which is awesome. Waiting to hear about financial aid as she is the second in college and it is needed. Waiting to hear from Bowdoin, Bucknell, Notre Dame, William and Mary, Colgate, Whitman and Yale. She can’t wait to visit via the paid airfare program and see the campus.

Son accepted with Founder’s merit. IB diploma, 3.7, arts and sports plus service. We are from Indiana, no one we know has been looking at Denison.

His top choice – strong academics, arts and music, diverse student body, gorgeous campus. As a family, we are very impressed with administration and communication.

We have visited schools from Bates to Grinnell, and Denison is a real gem.

Are only some people receiving the paid airfare for a visit offer? If so, any idea what criteria they are using to determine who receives that?

I got admitted with Founders merit. Also i got a paid airfare. Super happy.

As everyone knows who got a merit scholarship, you have to maintain a 3.0 after sophomore year to keep it (or else go down to $20,000 per year – which of course is not terrible). I was wondering if anyone knew if it’s hard to maintain a 3.0 at Denison especially in the sciences. My son’s other schools only require a 2.5 to maintain his merit scholarship (I think). It’s funny how everyone on College Confidential seems to get quite a bit of money. I think Denison gives out a lot of offers in the $7,000/$14,000 range but those students must be weaker than the typical College Confidential browser!

I think the “discount” level is more like $7,000/$14,000 for students with a 28 ACT and below. For those above their median, it seems like the awards start at $20,000 and go up to $46,000. At another school my son visited, which was also test score optional, they told me that test scores are a very big factor in merit aid even if students are admitted without test scores. With 20 percent of admitted students having no standardized test scores, it seems like that’s what Denison is doing (given the likely high test scores of College Confidential readers).

For what it’s worth, my kid was admitted test optional and received Founder’s – $24k a year. He does have a broad portfolio of achievement to make up for that, however. His interviewer had said that merit awards are determined on a holistic basis, same as admissions, though I can certainly imagine that the school would use merit to drive yield from high stat kids.

@MOMH20 Can’t say how difficult it is to maintain a 3.0, but I was impressed that the merit award recipients have 2 years to adapt to reach the required gpa and also that, if the gpa drops below the required level, the merit award drops to the next lower level rather than disappears altogether. My son had received some merit awards elsewhere which specified that failing to meet the gpa requirement meant the award was withdrawn entirely, there was no cushion. Since my kid’s strategy was driven by merit award, the possibility of losing the very award which makes attending that school feasible was daunting to us.

Was accepted with founder merit scholarship! Denison not my first choice but depending on which other schools I get into I very well may be attending DU next fall.

Also, S received Founder’s, but the balance is still too high for us. Absolutely loved Denison!!

My D was accepted with a Founder’s scholarship. Denison is one of her top choices. Still waiting to hear from several more and then she will decide. Probably will visit again in April.

Accepted! Haven’t checked the FA package yet, since it was sent to my old address. I’ll update when I know.
