<p>I am a white boy from Massachusetts...immediate negative. My family is very financially secure, and I DID NOT apply for financial aid because my family would have received next to nothing.</p>

<p>Although I haven't read the teacher recs themselves, I'm sure they are fantastic. My history teacher really liked me and my math teacher enjoyed how I taught the class how to graph sine waves using Excel (I hope/think she referenced this)</p>

<p>My essay is about how I used to hate visiting my grandfather because he has no modern technology. It was only after his death that I realized I had been blinded by 21st century material possesions. My AP lit teacher said it was an excellent essay and she said she praised it more than she typically praises an essay....I can message it to you if you care to read it.

<p>Hmm well I glanced over your stuff, and I don’t see anything that immediately disqualifies you, which is a plus. What that means is you have a fair shot at Dartmouth. The only thing that worries me is that you applied ED, where, while our admissions rate is higher, it is artificially so due to large amounts of legacy/recruited athlete/urm acceptances in this round. However, I would certainly say you still have as fair of a shot as anyone.</p>

<p>As a side note: sending out your college essay to strangers on the internet is a big no-no. I’d avoid doing this while you’re still in application season. </p>

<p>PS: Not applying for financial aid doesn’t effect your decision in the least. We’re need blind here :)</p>

<p>Spunaugle: Are you saying that it is more difficult to be accepted as an ED applicant than RD? That seems counterintuitive.</p>

<p>I don’t think he is saying that…he is just saying that one should not read too much into the ED acceptance rate. Yes it is higher, but there are many factors including recruited athletes, legacies, etc that makes this number inflated. I still think it is easier to get in ED than RD, however.</p>

<p>Right. That was my assessment as well. It has to be of help for strong applicants when the university knows that the applicant is committed to enrolling and not going elsewhere.</p>

<p>Pasteur/evilspartan: Correct, what I was trying to say is that it is roughly the same amount of difficulty to get accepted ED as RD in most cases. In some specific cases it might favor one or the other, though of course I have no way of telling besides just biased speculation. If you guys have any questions about the school or admissions process feel free to message me, or any of the other good Dartmouth people who hang around here. :)</p>

<p>im from india and applied to Dartmouth college ED for fall 2010.
i graduated from high school in June last year and my stats are as follows:</p>

<p>Took A level Bio, math, chem and physics for 11th and 12th and am an A student in all my classes.
got the school scholarship in my 12th year.
was class valedictorian (rank 1)
National topper in A level physics
SAT 1 score: 2330 (760 reading, 770 math, 800 writing)
SAT2 : 2400 (physics, chemistry, math level 2)
studied English for 4 years, french for 3.</p>

<p>Extra curriculars:

  1. over hundred hours comm service at school teaching underpriviledged children.
    2.over 200 hours in the past year volunteering at an NGO school teaching underpriviledged kids.
    3.Was founder and President of School science and math club.
    4.did a whole bunch of intramural sports at school, captained class cricket team, was a founder of school cricket team.
    5.have been doing research at an institute for a while in the past year.
    6.taught A level physics at my school for 2 months.
  2. play guitar and bongo drums.</p>

<p>essay is excellent, and so are the teacher evaluations.

<p>Both of you look good to me. However, you have similar stats as my S, who was wait-listed last year. You both have more community service type stuff, and I think ED will help. because Dratmouth will know you’re serious.Good Luck!</p>

<p>Because she was waitlisted I would think RD, but then again she might have been deferred then wait-listed.</p>
