ED To WashU STL Class of 2022

dang your EC’s ARE AMAZING. I say you have a great chance at ivy leagues because scores/grades are only a small part of your persona.

@xfewds
Like everyone said - fantastic ECs! I’m in the same boat as you (sorta)… 3.8 UW GPA, but really good standout business EC’s and initiatives.
My only question to you is this: How are you going to describe each activity in 150 characters or less? I know the additional info section has 650 extra words, but do you think you’ll be able to fit all this good stuff in there? Also, you’re only allowed 10 slots on the activities . How are you gonna fit all of this? I might need some help with this as well.

@aneeshs17 The key is to group your extracurriculars. So if you are in three choirs, group them all under “Choir” and then list them under the description. If you did two engineering summer camps, title it “Engineering camp” and then list the two in the description. You may have to choose, but don’t be afraid to group similar activities.

@aneeshs17 @JemmaSimmons I was going to group and also put my most impressive and significant ECs in that list. In addition I would attach my resume. If needed i would further explain in the extra part with 650 words. Are you also EDing to WashU?

@xfewds The best way to maximize your chances is to apply ED. WashU loves demonstrated interest and a binding ED application is the ultimate expression. Just make sure that your parents will be able to afford it and are on board. Run the numbers to see if it will be feasible.

You do NOT need to take the SAT two more times. A 1500 is a great score! Your time might be better spent taking SAT II subject tests and/or maintaining a consistently high GPA during your senior year. Or take it one more time if you really feel compelled to do so. But a 1500 vs. a 1550+ will not make or break your application.

If you look back on applicant threads from last year, you will see that WashU is very unpredictable. Sometimes high stats students get turned away and those with lower stats get admitted. You have an interesting story and it sounds like you have a lot to offer to campus life (multiple foreign languages, Diabetes community advocate, etc.)

Best of luck to you!

@xfewds No, I’m actually applying Penn (Wharton) ED bc I have a lot of respectable business ECs and I’m working on publishing some stuff with Wharton’s HS business journal!! :slight_smile: Only prob is my GPA, class rank, and test scores are just average for Penn (For an Asian, average = rejection lol) so I’m kinda having second thoughts on Penn ED (I feel like it might be a waste of ED).
I actually just recently discovered WashU as a university I’d seriously consider applying to. All this time I just thought it was some super expensive elitist university that gives no financial aid and brags about their average/sub-par pre-professional programs. After looking on CC, Niche, and a lot of other places, I’m really starting to think it might be a better idea for ED! I think I’ll definitely have a solid shot - but then again, it’s all about how much risk I wanna take in the ED round.
