In addition, I am a type one diabetic myself and had medical issues my first semester of junior year, resulting in my GPA to drop, but my principal assured me that a professional letter would be written to explain the drop. Besides that, I had a respectable sophomore and freshman year. I will also visit the school this summer will have my interview

Your UW GPA is low for Wash U but your ECs are STELLAR. You’re a very involved applicant and have unique ECs, with lots of accomplishment and stories behind them. You have an excellent chance, as it seems your essays and recs will be incredible as well.

Amazing that you can speak that many languages. That alone could get you in.

Thanks

Lol thank u

I think you have a phenomenal chance to get into WashU. WashU is a school that doesn’t take many students for academic achievements (many people with 36s and 4.5 weighted GPAs got rejected). Rather, doing something outstanding helps much more, which you clearly do. You have a phenomenal chance.

bump

I think you are a match. GPA does seem low, but your EC’s are sick plus languages.

Applying ED will significantly increase your chances! Your ECs are outstanding. If your GPA shows an upward trend over time that will help, too. Best of luck to you!

It’s hard to place you at anything other than a reach for a Top 20 school with that GPA, regardless of how outstanding your ECs are. It just seems like they get plenty of applicants who also have amazing ECs and test scores and teacher recs and then on top of that have 3.8+ GPAs. But what do I know, I’m not an admissions officer!

@callogan44 hey man i totally agree that my gpa at the moment is a little low, but i think what makes my application unique is that i am type one diabetic and have done numerous ground breaking things for the type one community in california which shows my motivation and drive. in addition my gpa before my first semester junior year was near 3.85 and i am having my principal write a letter to explain my medical complications during that period, do you still think, even with all my ECs and explanations, that WashU is a reach?

Dedicated and focused EC’s and a good SAT score. I think low reach. If you can get a letter explaining the health issues and finish the academic year strong there is a good chance of admission.

Definitely express interest and if possible go on a campus visit and set up an interview. Go to the Bay Area WashU events to meet with the admissions officers. Good luck!

Wow ur EC’s are insane and good scores you’ll get in

Yeah I totally get that you’re undisputedly involved in great things, and I’m sure it works to your advantage that you’re gpa is on an upward trend. But I’m just saying it’s my perception that a school like WashU is basically a reach for everyone, even those with perfect grades and test scores. And since your GPA probably puts you in like the 20th percentile or lower for WashU, this factor even overshadows the incredibly impressive things you’ve done out of school (and your stellar SAT). You could definitely be right that it’s more of a match, and it also depends on what your definition of reach is, but I would say that anyone, regardless of how fantastic their ECs are, is going to struggle with such (relatively) low grades. One caveat though: if you apply ED, I definitely would say it’s a match.

@callogan44 Ok, thanks for your help! I will most likely ED there and my academic year isnt finished yet and I am performing really good at school at the moment and I have a solid shot at raising my GPA

Also taking SAT 2 more times at least and am working hard (at least an hour a day) to raise it

I think you stand a good chance, even for a reach school like Wash U. Your ECs are incredible and you’re a unique and focused applicant. GPA is your only drawback.

Bump

You’ve got this! Amazing ECs, good GPA, IB will help, and an amazing profile. I have confidence in the fact that you’ll get in, especially if it’s ED.

@zbnnycib56 Thank you  do you think I have a shot at ED1 Vanderbilt ? Thanks
