ED to Williams and EA to another university

Williams is my first choice and I will apply ED this fall. I was wondering whether students are allowed to apply EA to other colleges at the same time.

I would like to get done with the college applications process so that I an focus on my academics. Hence, I’d like to apply EA to one other college while applying ED to Williams. Is this a good idea? And will it affect my chances of getting into any of the colleges that I apply early to?

Thanks in advance

Generally this is fine, unless the college specifically prohibits it. Check their website. It won’t affect your chances. You can apply EA, rolling admissions, and even send in your RD apps to other colleges. But if you are accepted to Williams, and have reviewed your FA package to confirm it is acceptable, you have to withdraw all those other apps and attend Williams, even if you got in someplace else.

I personally would prepare the RD apps so they are ready to go, but hold them until near the RD date. If you have an acceptance from Williams but still don’t have your FA from them as the RD date gets very close, I’d submit the RDs so you aren’t shut out if the FA doesn’t get sorted.

Thanks a lot, @intparent
