ED up 4.8% not 6%

Class of 2013:

ED Applicants: 3,666
ED Accepted : 1,156
ED Acc. Rate: 31.5%
Fluctuation: 8% drop

Class of 2014:

ED Applicants: 3,842
ED Accepted : --
ED Acc. Rate : --
Fluctuation: ~5% rise.

Clearly from these numbers we can see that there is a 4.8% increase in the applicants, not 6.4% as The Daily Pennsylvanian reported.

They probably included the estimated number of Questbridge candidates that they said would be added to the pool this week.

What? that doesn’t quite make sense. So you say the 3,842 applicants doesn’t include Questbridge applicants? Either way, they sorta have their facts wrong. UPenn reports 3,666 ED applicants last year, the DP reports 3,610 ED applicants, this accounts for the ~1.2% differentiation.

I didn’t realize the disparity between the two numbers from last years class. My bad. I was thinking of the few sentences in the article that said any Questbridge applicants that were granted the scholarship will be placed in the Early Decision pool this week so their numbers will go up. Clearly I wasn’t looking at the numbers carefully. sorry for that confusion!

From the DP:

sounds like they were just comparing apples to apples

I don’t know if it’s an error in the DP article, but penn applicants rejected during the ED questbridge process are supposed to be put into the RD pool…
