My first post to this board…with a ton of questions. My oldest daughter will apply to WUSTL and she is undecided on ED. Mainly due to cost. She was one of the students who was able to visit campus under the Discovery Program. She loves everything about the University but the Cost. Her dad and I are divorced and had an agreement on college costs that only made provisions for a state school in IL> She is in top 3 at her Catholic High School, solid ACT and an african American student. Our family income is probably high enough between my ex husband and current husband that she would not qualify for financial aid.

By deciding ED at Washington University we would be locked in and may have to take out loans if merit aid not offered. We have proposed our numbers to her. No loans and a car for her use once a Sophomore. But the idea of WUSTL in her mind (and mine) represents great opportunity in a multicultural environment.

Any thoughts on ED vs RD?

Danforth/Ervin Scholars information

You won’t find out about Danforth/Ervin early because the mandatory scholarship weekend isn’t until the end of March.

It sounds as though your daughter would be comfortable committing to WUSTL as her school of choice if the cost is at an acceptable level. That being the case, I’d strongly recommend that you speak with both the admissions office (to verify whether they will hold you to an ED commitment if the needed level of Financial Aid is not forthcoming), and to the Financial Aid office to get an estimate of any aid that would be available under your individual circumstances. They have a worksheet that should be available to you online that will form part of their review. We found WashU to be very accessible, extremely hands-on and more than willing to talk and help guide you through the process. Good Luck!

Thank you for the responses. She is currently putting finishing touches on essays and reminded me everything will work out. RD wiith an early application, follow up letters to the people she met from admissions and her host from Discovery weekend…and also the Cross Country Coach… She’s interested that’s for sure.
