My D applied ED 1 for Davidson and she is now counting down the days to notification. Anyone else apply for ED1? She feels very unsure about her chances but is very hopeful and has very good test scores and a strong GPA, course load, etc... This board has been so quiet I wonder if applications may not be as high for ED1 at Davidson this year. Love to hear from any others waiting.

I am one of those ED1 applicants and I can assure your friend I am equally nervous. I can’t say I stand out GPA wise, but have got good test scores and a decent personal statement. All I can say is that I’m hoping that’s enough. Knowing that in 10 days, I will know whether or not I’ll be at the school of my dreams is absolutely nerve-wracking.

Best of Luck to you! I hope we will all be celebrating in a little over a week.

FWIW, the Davidson board is always a bit sleepy, relative to others. [I for one take that as a good thing…not as many stereotypical & prolific CC over-achievers apparently attracted to Davidson.] So I wouldn’t count on applications being down.

Great point! I agree that Davidson attracts a unique set of applicants. It was probably just wishful thinking on my part :)

Any idea how “competitve” ED2 is ? I am considering ED2 which is a January 2 due date. I have 3.9 GPA, 2170 SAT, took 2 AP’s Junior year (5 on Lit and 4 on Psych) taking 3 AP Senior year.

So excited my D just found out that she was accepted to ED1 at Davidson. She is so happy!
Butter Pecan I think ED2 has about the same acceptance rate as ED1 which is a huge advantage at Davidson. I’m not sure but I think that was shared at the info session I went to.

I got accepted also!! Class of 2017 here I come! I had a 4.0 GPA, 1750 on SAT. I was surprised that I got in.

Congrats and thanks for posting!

Hey guys, I applied for ED2 earlier today. Couple questions for you guys if you don’t mind, I know the decisions come out on February 1st, but what’s the general method for notification? Do they mail a letter on the 1st that arrives later, or is it generally done over the phone/email. Thanks!

My daughter had a link to log-in to an account sent to her in advance. A few days before decisions came out a release time was posted on that page saying something like “early decisions will be released by 10am on 12/15.” She then checked at that time and her decision was posted. She then received a letter in the mail a few days later. Good luck!

ED II out in 6 minutes

Any updates from ED II? Hope you go in Andre3000!

caspiancat- unfortunately I have neither seen nor expect any. Info on ED2 is usually very hard to come by. My theory is that the schools that report app numbers or admission stats promptly have a history of doing so for positive PR purposes, and for those PR-sensitive schools, app numbers are generally reported after the initial December ED round (ED1 for those schools with 2 ED’s) and when total apps are counted (but often before admissions decisions are made). So two releases of info. ED2 is subsumed in the total apps reporting. [Further theory that once a school gets in the PR app-reporting game, its hard to stop. Hence schools like Dartmouth who have been doing this for a while need to report ‘bad’ news…apps decreases…as well as good news to satisfy public expectations.]

The only way I have come up with to tease out ED2 numbers is by back-calculating them from news reports of ED1 numbers subtracted from total ED numbers reported in the CDS. Unfortunately, doing this calculation is dependent upon a CDS being posted which is often a year plus after the application period. Better than nothing though if history can help with your question. Bottom line, contemporaneous knowledge of ED2 apps numbers, as can sometimes be had with ED1 numbers, is normally not possible.

Specific to Davidson, they have not reported on ED1 apps numbers or admission rate (from what I can find this season), so we have no starting point. And I believe its doubtful they will come forward with info on ED2 if they have not done so with ED1.
