Hey, I am thinking about applying early descision ii. The Reed website says I need a cover letter stating my intention to apply ed... is this some sort of statement of why I am applying to Reed ed or literally just a letter saying "I am applying ed and I promiss I won't change my mind and go to Harvard, signed me" so they have like a signed statement that I am applying binding ed? Anyone who's already applied ed, or just happens to know, help would be appreciated.

"The Common Application, the Reed application supplement, and the application fee ($40) should be submitted by November 15 (Option I) or January 2 (Option II). Please also include a cover letter stating your intention to apply early decision."

The way I interpret this is that they want you just to send a cover letter that clarifies that your submission is an ED submission as opposed to an RD submission -- since otherwise the application might get into the wrong pile, so to speak. So just write a cover letter clearly stating that you are submitting for the ED2 review.

Will do, thanks for the help :-)

I am Mom of student who just got in ED 1 to Reed (yay!) and we did not submit a cover letter, but clearly checked ED 1 on all the envelopes and apps.

Congratulations to your daughter! She is going to get a heckuva good education at Reed (I did, too -- some years ago).

Mack-
Thanks...except its my son! He is truly excited... he did an overnight campus visit last year and loved it. It was a reach for him but I think his essays may have helped, he's a very good writer.
