Hi! I applied to six schools - Amherst, Brandeis, George Washington, Richmond, Tufts, and Vassar - and got into GW with EDII. I've already canceled all of my applications to the other five. Would it be totally out of the question to email them and ask about refunding my application fees? Not to sound cheap, but that's a total of $305 in fees that will never really be used, even if they're "nonrefundable".

Has anyone ever successfully done this? Is it a lost cause at this point?

You can ask for anything, you will get nothing. Unless they state application fees are refundable (I am unaware of any college that says application fees are refundable), your requesting return of the fee will be read and answered only by a low level employee who will send out a form letter denying your request.

Yes, you have $305 in fees but you had the option of not applying to all those colleges.

The application fee covers the cost of processing the applications. Even if you haven’t received a decision from them, some amount of processing has been done.

They won’t give you the money back it’s not worth it. And I personally think it’s inappropriate to ask a college that question especially when you tell them you got into another college ED.

If you think $305 is a lot of money, wait until you have to pay your college bills. Even if you got a full boat load of aid, it is still costly just buying dorm stuff, paying for lost ID, laundry, and all the little extras that get added here and there. Get used to it!

Your app fees WERE used. They were used to pay the people who have been handling your apps up until the time you contacted them about your ED acceptance.
