EDII: Just for Athletes?

I've found it hard to get much information about EDII statistics; almost everything is about EDI. Is there much hope of getting in if I applied EDII? My stats and ECs are ok, but it seems like most people admitted ED have been recruited (dejected sigh). Middlebury is my dream school... thoughts?

My impression is that most athletes apply ED I. At least two students from my daughter’s school applied ED II. They were both deferred----one got in regular decision for September and for Feb. Neither was an athlete. So even if you get deferred, there is still hope. At least it shows Middlebury that they are your top choice. Good luck!

Like Hitch says, most recruits apply EDI. EDII may have some recruits who were deferred or rejected from their EDI school, but the point of ED is to demonstrate that this is a top choice. It is a binding decision so if you don’t need to compare financial aid packages and it’s really where you want to go, I’d definitely apply EDII.

thanks, I did. I was just fretting.

I did not apply to Middlebury, but from my school at least, the only people who have ever been admitted in the past five years are athletes. In fact 3 years ago, One girl applied early decision I to Middlebury and was deferred, while the athletes from my school were admitted ed that year. This same girl who got deferred from Middlebury was later admitted to Dartmouth.
This should tell you something…

It tells me that there is a lot of cross admits between Dartmouth and Midd. But I already knew that. Of over 10 admits to Dartmouth at our school, I can say with relative confidence that all were athletes and URM’s or both. And I would also say that only athletes were admitted ED.

Epans, honestly, that tells you nothing. I can give you a million examples of students applying to school A and B who felt they should have gotten accepted at A but deferred at B, when in fact, the reverse happened.

With schools of this quality it often comes down to what particular niche the applicant fills. In the case described by Epans, the girl may have been the third oboe player applying from that state. You really can’t infer anything from that example.

You definitely don’t need to be an athlete. I applied ED2 and was accepted without being recruited, or intending to play, any sports here (other than casual ultimate/skiing).

i just got in. there. is. hope.

congrats! what are you stats, if you don’t mind me asking for all of the rest of us who’ve applied?

Congratulations, ifiwasaninja! Midd is a great school.

aaahhhh thank you!
my mom will probably be creeping on this, so HI MOM.
